Corruption draws corruption. So the success story of BCCI [though corrupt] has been in focus of many politicians and sports ministry for a long time now [especially more sharply since IPL opened the floodgates of big moolah, corporate and glamor doses in the mix]. There has been a slow and steady attempts by some politicians to hijack BCCI and by some Govt sports department to get a hand in the big pie. I don't know what has been the catalyst this time and most reports are vague and still not making headlines in the media [surprising], but the sports ministry and BCCI are on a collision course.

Steps are on to de-recognize BCCI as the cricket's governing body and this is one case where the cure is more worse than the ailment. because if Govt starts deciding our cricket body we will soon go the way of Indian Hockey and athletes where politicians and corrupt officials will leach off the benefits and the sports and sportsmen will live like beggars and victims. The likes of MS Gill, Kalmadi, Darbaris and Lalit Bhanots who were in 'charge' of CWGs taking over cricket would be our worst nightmare ever.

At the moment it seems the sports ministry has de-recognized BCCI so it may impact our WC preparations. [I think things at present may still not get to worse as Govt may make attempts for a successful WC for now though.] But a huge amount of politics and back door games may follow in the aftermath leading our cricket in turmoil. I hope I am wrong about this. Trust the Indian Govt to try and do something they are not required to do.

The reason of 'incomplete' paperwork is all hogwash as this would have been the case much earlier for de-recognition. I feel a more sinister game is playing backdoors with politicians of the sports ministries in the heart of it.

The BCCI had been upto no good and needs to be punished. That's what the central government feels, anyway. The central body has decided to withdraw customs duty exemption on import of goods by the BCCI or bodies certified by it due to the fact that the cricket board has not complied with a slew of mandatory requirements.

The move comes on the heels of the sports ministry's decision to de-recognise the BCCI as a national sports federation or the apex body of cricket in India.

The move will undoubtedly impact the plans of the BCCI for the world cup which it will be co-hosting from February 19.

The government had de-recognised the board for its failure to complete the paperwork needed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports as part of its new annual recognition process set up for all national sports federations in India.

In order for a sports federation to be recognised by the government, it must submit details about its electoral process, the duration of the tenure of its officials and a statement of accounts. While the BCCI is not dependant on the Indian government with regards to funding, unlike most other sports federations, it requires government clearances for overseas tours of its teams and also enjoys several benefits relating to tax exemption.

I can't wait for corrupt and inefficient politicians and bureaucrats to take over who will have free foreign jaunts with families on every overseas tour, who will appoint all powers of selections and administrations in theor own hands and who will force cricketers to buy their own kits and sponsor their own matches for lack of funds!

BCCI takes on government, says it''s an autonomous body - Link

This will only a trigger a bigger debate on BCCI's rights to use the name 'India' against it's team. If it is a private body without Govt. backing it cannot associate the team with India as it's representatives. It can only be called Team BCCI. These questions were raided in a Delhi court case earlier.
