Re: AB Medal
I always watch it. Pup will take the AB Medal and Test Player of the Year. Paris or Nikki may give him a run in the ODI Player of the Year.

Phurt. Your lad was barely born when the Great Little Man was single-handedly holding off the Windies greatest pace attacks Test after Test.
And is it only me who thinks a man who insists on being known by his initials only is a little pompous? Clearly he is ashamed of the Abraham Benjamin monikers.

M.S. Dhoni, J.P. Duminy. There are a few of them around now.

Re: AB Medal
I suspect that parents who don't like the family names but feel duty-bound to bestow them often find ways around the problem by using initials or a variation that may, in some cases, be somewhat different from the given names. I've also seen schoolmates call boys by their initials, especially if there is more than one kid with the name in class.

Can't see anything wrong with Ben de Villiers. Granted Abe de Villiers is a bit gross.
Ironically, I bet his nickname is Abe.

Re: AB Medal
I thought it was the commentators' laziness that brought this initials business. As far as I know, Dhoni likes to be addressed as only Dhoni and not MS or MS Dhoni or Mahendra Singh. R Ashwin for Ravichandran Ashwin grates the nerves as well.

His dad is also Abraham Benjamin, so I guess having two Abrahams in the house was a bit much... Most Abrahams end up being called Abe (as in AB) anyway...skully wrote:Can't see anything wrong with Ben de Villiers. Granted Abe de Villiers is a bit gross.

Bender Villiers? There has to be a line there somewhere.
On a similar (kind of) theme I dunno if the gentleman himself insists on it (unlikely, he's never seemed the type), or it's just lazy editing by the studio graphics people, but is there any need to specify 'Davis Love III' unless DL I, II, IV or XVIII is also playing in the tournament?

WhatTF is this AB Medal ?
And why is it so bloody important to warrant an FB thread about it?

Since when has 'importance' been a requirement for FB threads? Not long back there was a 10 or 12 page thread about Vilks's cold bloody feet FFS. .

Re: AB Medal
So .... at the risk of repeating (burp) myself .... W.T.F.is the AB medal?
Is it like an OBE gong ... or something that fits nicely on the back of the bog door?
Simples questions.

Re: AB Medal
It's cricket's best effort at an equivalent of the Brownlow Medal night (AFL) or the dally M (ARL). Every sport has to have one. It's the Law.
There has to be an excruciating Red Carpet section, the counting of votes has to take at least three hours (and seem more like a week) with a five minute ad break every five minutes, and there must be at least one pre-count 'leak'.

Re: AB Medal
Here ya go, Merls.
"The Allan Border Medal is considered to be the biggest individual prize in Australian cricket. First awarded in 2000, the medal is named after former Australian captain Allan Border and recognises the most outstanding Australian cricketer of the past season as voted by his peers, the media and umpires. Votes are cast after each game on a 3-2-1 basis, with a weighting applied to give both One Day International and Test players an equal chance of winning the award."
