Re: The Walking Dead
Nah, its been OK this season, h. But I agree with Dello that this was a fairly weak ep. Too many in the dark scenes & boring D&M stuff.

The problem is, we just don't really care about this bunch at the moment. Sure, Abraham looks a good value character, and Eugene has delivered some solid punchlines, but Rosita is utterly nondescript and I've no idea what the hell Tara's still doing around - she was an extra in a brief Governor subplot who has somehow not been dispatched by the writers in spite of having no storyline or, frequently, any lines at all.
I guess they're just T-Dogging her along until it's time to kill off some of the group that aren't the contracted stars.
Sure, we've gone the distance with Glenn and Maggie, but they're phoning it in at the moment after their big/interminable storyline in the second half of last season.
It was just a bit filler-y, with a "shock revelation" at the end which was less shocking than Elton John coming out.
Anyway, next week we'll finish off the Beth distraction (got a feeling either she or Carol won't be coming back - just a guess, no spoilers) and then we'll be back to the main business.
Re: The Walking Dead
Yep, defo a filler...
I was expecting the Daryl-Carol-Beth show, but that's next week. Maybe the producers felt we couldn't handle Beth two weeks straight.

Re: The Walking Dead
If we're back to Daryl, Carol, and Beth next week, that will be three episodes in a row without the supposed 'main star' of the whole thing Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) involved. Bryan Cranston didn't have to put up with this shit with Breaking Bad when he was Emmy hunting. Anti-English, I say.
But seriously, there are only two characters in Breaking Bad that people actually care about- Rick and Daryl. Maybe at a push Glenn. And the 'go girl' feminists of the world will cheer for Carol (she won't die by the way, being the only main female character with any kind of credibility left on the show) The rest are all a bit meh. Even if Carl became walker food, I don't think many people would have tears streaming down their cheeks, arrogant little shit that he is. So the writers are pushing their luck by not having Rick and Daryl (the heartbeat of the show) involved in every episode.

Re: The Walking Dead
A fair point, Trev. But from the shorts I've seen, it definitely seems to be the parallel Carol-Daryl-Beth storyline leading up to Daryl summoning someone out of the bush at the church.

S05E06 - Looks like Nath is right.
- Spoiler:
- They are stringing out the Carol-Daryl-Beth chunk of the story for much of the season (only 2 eps left until the US winter hiatus).
In keeping with the expected Carol-Daryl storyline in this ep, there's not much dialogue. There's lots of flashbacks to the unseen (& some seen) parts of Carol's journey from the moment Rick ostracised her.
Basically Carol & Daryl follow the limo with the white cross back to Atlanta, dodge lots of walkers, get ambushed by Noah, but catch up with him after he gets trapped by a hoard. Daryl puts an arrow in his calf & drops a bookcase on him. He wants to leave him for the walkers but Carol won't have it. They establish that Noah knows Beth, but the hospital crew are closing in thanks to Noah's panicky shots at the hoard. After they regroup, Carol runs out on the road & gets run down by the crew. Noah restrains Daryl from going to her aid, saying they'll fix her at the hospital. In yet another truck still with fuel, Daryl & Noah then head presumably back to the church to get A-team reinforcements to take on the creepy hospital crew. Should be juicy.
So Nath's right, it'll be Noah who comes out of the bushes at the church.
A fair ep, but it did have 5 minutes of the most ridiculous TV. Firstly, Carol shimmies through a chained door backwards & not looking into a hallway they know is infested with walkers, which is when Noah jumps them & takes their weapons (later regained). Then C&D find an ambulance crashed through a guardrail on a bridge. They then get into the vehicle, but bizarrely don't pay attention to the hoards coming from both directions. They have to take refuge in the ambulance & rock it so it falls off the bridge!! From the inside shot they are heading nose down to the ground, but the vehicle remarkably lands on its wheels!!!! A chunk of the hoard splatters on top of them. The only casualty is Carol's shoulder. Zack the Half-Zombie claws at them as they limp away to their catch-up encounter with Noah.
So next week is about Daryl & the A-team + Noah getting ready to battle the Creepy Hospital Crew to save Carol & Beth.

Re: The Walking Dead
Blimey, they're dragging this bit out. Guess we know the mid-season finale will be the...
- Spoiler:
- ... assault on the hospital. You know, like last year's mid-season finale was the assault on the prison.
But are there really that many people at the hospital to put up a big resistance? It wasn't exactly swarming with folk during the Beth episode. Just a handful.
Hey ho.
Re: The Walking Dead
Yup.
- Spoiler:
- Rick will get to take his angst out on some real hoomans, who'll have the upper hand at the mid season break.
I'm still waiting for some walkers to mutate to faster, stronger versions, ala World War Z, to give the A-team some real challenges.

I don't think that's going to happen. From what I know of the comics (which isn't much)...
- Spoiler:
- The walkers got ever weaker as their feeds became increasingly infrequent - what with all the human Happy Meals having been mostly consumed. They were also slowed to the point of semi-hibernation during the harsh Georgia winters, but the TV show never shoots in that season, so it's all been brushed over.
Re: The Walking Dead
Cheers D.
But the show hasn't always followed the comic. Perhaps via Darwinian survival of the fittest, I'll get my wish.

Re: The Walking Dead
S05E07.
- Spoiler:
- A pretty slow moving mixture of the 3 storylines.
Abraham stays a bit psycho for the whole ep, just walloping in self pity on his knees. Tara has renamed this group GREATM from their 1st initials. Glenn, Tara & Rosita go off looking for water & manage to catch some fish. Eugene seems to be alive (was sorta hoping he'd turn into a Tennessee Top Hat Trundler). Abraham seems to come to his senses at the end.
At the church, Michonne & Carl have been left with Judith & the Rev. Carl urges the Rev pick a weapon to defend himself. He picks a machete but uses it to rip up floor boards in his ante room & escape. He treads on a nail, which is bound to get infected. He fights off one walker but can't bring himself to smash its head in because it has a crucifix.
The main bit revolves around Rick, Daryl, Tyreese, Sasha and Noah (who was the bush baby) heading back to Atlanta to jump the hospital. They battle with 3 cops & overcome them. The seemingly most reasonable one, Bob, reasons with Rick that Dawn can be convinced to compromise. So Rick & Daryl head off to do that. Warm fuzzy Bob then spins Sasha a story about seeing a rotter outside that used to be his partner. Sasha offers to put him out of his misery, but as she lines up the shot, Bob shoves her from behind, cracks her head on a window & escapes. Looks like Rick & Daryl have been set up.
In the hospital Beth argues with Dawn not to turn Carol's life support off. Dawn seems impressed by her moxy so gives her the medicine cabinet key, from which she gets the right drip drugs with Dr Edwards advice. We know Carol will pull through.
Special mention to the decayed but still snarling zombies at the hospital. They were basically melted into the carpark asphalt. As Daryl fought to overcome one cop who was trying to feed him to a walker, Daryl stuck a finger in each eye of a zombie, ripped off its head & smashed the cop's head with it. Choice.

Re: The Walking Dead
S05E08. Nath’s right, it WAS sad.
- Spoiler:
- Rick catches up with Bob, the cop who double-crossed Sasha, & runs him down & shoots him.
The escaped Rev goes to a school & is desolated by what he finds (including cooked body parts). He has to escape walkers & leads them back to the church. Michonne & Carl let him in but are swarmed by a hoard & have to escape the same way the Rev did, through the rectory floor. They trap the hoard but as they are beginning to grrrrrr their way out, the Abraham driven fire truck zooms up & blocks the door. Michonne greets Glenn & Maggie with much joy, & delights in telling Maggie that Beth is alive. She is overjoyed.
The two remaining cops with the A-team agree to a deal to talk Dawn into a trade – them for Carol & Beth. Dawn tries to bond with Beth, then Officer Donaldson storms in demanding Dawn hand over command. Dawn & Donaldson rumble before Beth pushes him down the lift well to save Dawn.
The swap deal goes down in the hospital & all is going well until Dawn demands Noah back as part of the deal. Noah volunteers to go, but Beth won’t have it & steps up & stabs Dawn with scissors. Instinctively, Dawn blows Beth’s brains out from under her chin!!! Daryl furiously pops Dawn in the forehead in return. Sanity prevails & there’s no gun fight, but the A-team is devastated.
The really sad bit is when the fire truck rolls up to the hospital & Maggie’s joy turns to overwhelming grief when she sees Beth’s body in a crying Daryl’s arms. Moving stuff.
Ep ends with Morgan Jones (from S1 - and who we saw hiking to Terminus in early S5) going to the Rev’s church & finding the map to Washington. He seems delighted to see Rick's name (written by Abraham).
Pretty grouse ep. No more Beth singing.

Ep ends with some mystery black dude (seems he may also be a Rev) going to the Rev’s church & finding the map to Washington. He seems to know Rick's name (written on the map by Abraham).
- Spoiler:
- that's Morgan. remember him lurking around after the credits in the 1st ep of this season?

Re: The Walking Dead
And that's...
- Spoiler:
- ... the end of that chapter.
All that "character growth" for Beth, interminably drip-fed over the last 10-15 episodes, was so they could kill her off. After being promoted to "series regular", the actress only featured in three episodes.
Should've stayed a guest star.
So, basically, it's as you were at the start of the season, plus Noah and preacherman, minus Bob. And, presumably, at some point with added Morgan.
When are we back?

Re: The Walking Dead
I thought the Doc may have gone with them. Seems a waste of a potentially good character.
Re: The Walking Dead
I agree, Mr Dog. But I don't think the cops would've let him. A hospital without a doctor is a brick shithouse.
