Spoiler:
Ep opens with a past motivational speech from Zeke, before coming back to the present where we basically find all of his people shot by snipers. Ezekiel is still alive, though wounded in the leg, after his subjects protected him from the gun fire.

They all turn and shamble after Zeke, before he is captured by a Saviour.

Turns out the heavy guns Rick was after were moved to this outpost. Carol, who had left to sweep the compound earlier, stalks the Saviours in charge of the guns. She kills several, but gets overwhelmed by numbers and trapped. She out-thinks them and opens a gate that allows zombies to sneak up and chomp on them.

Meanwhile, the geek Saviour and Zeke get trapped by walkers. The geek Saviour says he'd rather take Zeke to Negan but his head on a spike will do (as he is slowing his escape). As he is about to kill Zeke he is cleaved in two, by Jerry!!!! Zeke and Jerry are then hemmed in by a wall of walkers.

Carol has dealt with all but 2 Saviours but sees Zeke and Jerry in danger, so has a dilemma.

A flashback explains that Zeke was a meek zookeeper who saved Shiva the Tiger after the apocalypse unfolded. Shiva then became clearly devoted to Zeke.

Carol decides to concentrate on Zeke and Jerry, which allows the 2 surviving Saviours to escape with the "heavy guns". But Carol's not worried as she sees a growling motorbike race by.

Daryl and Rick chase after the heavy guns. Other than a silly bit where one Saviour is firing a machine gun at Rick's trailing Jeep yet can't get a single hit, it's a good scene. Daryl takes out the gunner and Rick jumps into the gun transporter and stabs the driver. They get the guns.

Carol, Zeke and Jerry have made their way to the woods but get cornered by a large hoard. Things look grim until Shiva attacks the hoard. She is swamped and killed by the herd. RIP Shiva. Carol, Zeke and Jerry escape. Zeke is sad.

A question - who writes this stuff and why do they consistently confuse horde with hoard?

I write this stuff, so it's obviously me confusing the hawds. Cool

It is my review of the episode. I find it useful to refer back to as a reminder of what happened "Previously on the Walking Dead". It's quicker than FFing through the previous ep.

It's a f*cking tiger. How in blazes would it get overpowered by a handful of weak, decaying walkers who have been bathing in toxic waste for months?

The same number of fit, healthy, unarmed humans wouldn't have stood a chance against it.

Seems to have been killed off to save on the (bad) CGI budget.

Anyway, onto next week and part 5 of sweaty people hiding and peering around corners in between gun battles with unlimited ammo.

S08E05. Bit of a gab-fest.

Spoiler:
We get a long opening teaser that takes us back to before the good guys sieged the Saviours' compound. All a bit meaningless & pointless, with Gregory simpering before Negan. Then we jump forward to the zombie-surrounded shed, with the Rev claiming he's there to hear Negan's confession.

Rick & Daryl learn the Kingdom was wiped out.

Negan's head group suspect an insider has lead to the siege. Dwight shuts down the discussion, but it's clear everyone suspects Eugene. Later Eugene thanks Dwight.

In the shed, Gabe learns more about Negan's background but tricks him & swipes back his fully loaded gun.

Rick and Daryl get into a fight when Daryl wants to use captured dynamite to blow the Saviours' compound to kingdom-come. Rick doesn't want to jeopardise the innocent workers. Rick throws the dynamite back on the rolled truck which explodes (leaking fuel). All guns and ammo are lost (really??). They go their separate ways.

Gabe confesses his cowardice at the church (locked his congregation out) and Negan confesses that he couldn't put his cancered 1st wife down. They then throw the escape-from-Alexandria Hail Mary of covering themselves with zombie guts. They successfully escape, with pistol-toting Gabe saving Negan from swarming walkers.

The Saviour workers revolt & Simon tries to strongarm them but fails. Regina shoots one worker & all hell is about to break loose when zombie-guts Negan saunters in and restores order.

Rick sees a helicopter & then is spied by a Garbage people lookout.

Negan tells Eugene he wants him to fix the zombie siege but if he doesn't he will mercifully kill him to save him from the horror of the Saviours' compound being overrun by walkers.

Eugene visits the incarcerated Gabe, who has become sick. Eugene wants the doctor to see him but Gabe wants the doctor to be returned to Hilltop for Maggie.

The best part of the ep was a bit of Negan character development and plenty of juicy dialogue from the baddie.

S08E06. Snoozy.

Spoiler:
We get letter status updates from all the Saviour outposts. Then it's a bunch of unrelated stories...

- At Hilltop, Jesus still wants save the captured Saviours. Gregory waffles on and Maggie isn't sure, but she lets them in but cages them, and chucks Gregory in with them. You just know this will end badly (probably at the hands of the sleazy captured head Saviour).

- Michonne and Rosita head off for a look at Sanctuary but are drawn to an outpost by loud singing. Turns out to be a couple of Saviours setting up speakers on a truck to draw the walkers away from Sanctuary. The best bit is when Rosita vapourises one Saviour with a grenade launcher. The other Saviour is about to get away with the speaker rig when they are T-boned by Daryl and Tara in a garbage truck. They all head off to have a long distance look at Sanctuary. They apparently want to attack the place by themselves.

- Rick goes to the Garbage people to do a deal, but they refuse and lock him up, naked. Really Rick?

- Carl goes looking for the Indian looking dude. His name is Siddiq and they kill some zombies together before Carl says he's now responsible for him. Yawn.

- And then there's Carol trying to coax a sulky Ezekiel back to being kingly. He says he can't.

All in all, pretty boring, a little confusing, and, as always, quite frustrating.

Re: The Walking Dead

S08E07. Reasonable.

Spoiler:
Heavily Eugene-centric ep where we see that he is basically a loyal Saviour. He refuses Dwight's pleas to side with Rick, he attempts to launch an iPod glider to lure the walkers away even though under threat of death from Dwight (who shoots down the iPod plane), then he angrily tells the sick Rev that he will not help get the Doc to Maggie. But there's a glimmer of hope when he doesn't out Dwight when he has the chance.

Daryl and Tara crash the garbage truck into Santuary, letting the walkers enter. This allegedly puts all in Sanctuary, which is low on ammo, under mortal danger (I guess by sheer weight of numbers). But Eugene has a plan, which Negan backs.

The Garbage people attempt to feed Rick to a spiked zombie, but he escapes and has Jadis by the throat. She agrees to side with the A-team. This was a bit weak, as Rick was surrounded by armed Garbage people who could easily have shot him. Anyway, for a quarter of Saviour loot, the Trashies agree to side with the good guys.

I still don't know how Gabe got sick.

Ep ends with Rick on a tower telescopically looking at Sanctuary with no zombies surrounding it. I imagine we might get a Rick v Daryl showdown as a result.

So we head into the mid-season finale.

S08E08. Mid-season finale.

Spoiler:
Negan and the Saviours escape from Sanctuary, apparently due to a musical Pied Piper set up by Eugene, that led the walkers away.

Negan and some Saviours besiege Alexandria, and another group goes to the Kingdom. Maggie leads the Hilltop group along the road to fark knows where.

Daryl leads the Alexandrians out the back way of Alexandria in a convoy. Ezekiel helps his people escape and locks its group of Saviours inside the Kingdom walls. Carol leads the survivors from the Kingdom to safety, while Morgan scowls in the shadows outside the walls.

Negan becomes aware of the escape and firebombs Alexandria. Carl escapes at the last minute into the sewer. Michonne takes out a few Saviours within Alexandria's walls before Rick shows and leads her away.

Maggie's group is stopped and given an ultimatum by Simon and his Saviours. Go back to Hilltop and grow food. Amazingly, he just seems to let them return, and they set about fortifying Hilltop.

Daryl and crew ambush chasing Saviours after Dwight leads the baddies right to them. Dwight is now with the good guys.

Eugene sets the Rev and the Doc free so he can sleep at night.

Rick's group ends up in the sewer, where he sees that Siddiq has lead his people to safety. The ep ends with Carl showing Rick that he was bitten (presumably when he and Siddiq were in the forest battling zombies in the previous ep - which would explain why Carl offered his life to Negan to stop "all this").

seems like they're saying Carl dies next episode. Apparently this is quite different to the comics, where Carl and Negan have a longer storyline arc

Re: The Walking Dead

Post by Dello on Tue 12 Dec 2017, 21:24

AMC's infamous penny pinching now fueling plot (what little there is) development...

Spoiler:
Chandler Riggs was - according to members of his family - fired, having earlier in the season been assured by Scott Gimple (showrunner) that he would be around for at least another three years, and subsequently brought a house in the area and chose a college close by. Because he was about to turn 18, the production didn't want to have to renegotiate his contract as, now, an adult, so let him go with very little warning.

Carl is still in the comics and becoming one of the main characters, apparently. So it's not like they are bound by the source material.

But, hey, the whole show's gone to shit anyway...
