To answer my own Q

"US television network AMC confirmed that The Walking Dead season nine will be happening.

The American broadcaster behind Breaking Bad and Mad Men confirmed renewal not long after the midseason finale for the eight run.

The season eight midseason finale featured some heartbreaking spoilers that left fans shocked at the zombie drama.

Season nine is yet to get an exact release date but it could be as soon as October 2018, judging by previous premieres. "

Re: The Walking Dead

S08E10

Spoiler:
Negan sends Simon to get the Garbage People to reaffirm the original arrangement they had with the Saviours, in spite of their double-cross at Alexandria. Simon angrily disagrees and wants to kill them all but Negan tells him to pull his head in, and says he can kill one.

Simon and crew go to Grbage town and get the weapons handed over but Simon want a remorseful apology. He shoots Jadis's right hand man. She punches him and Simon loses it, giving the green light to a slaughter.

Rick and Michonne show up at Garbage town looking to get their allegiance but find zombies. They get cornered and find Jadis is the only survivor. Rick and Michonne battle their way out but refuse to take Jadis.

Jadis attracts all of her zombie people up a mound and drops them all into an industrial shredder, creating zombie mince. Great scene. Smile

Methinks Jadis will be seeking vengeance on Simon (for the slaughter) AND Rick (for not taking her with them).

Rick reads Carl's letter to Negan then contacts him via walkie talkie to tell him Carl is dead. Negan is genuinely shocked and saddened but says it's all Rick's fault for not following Negan's requests. Rick maintains he is going to kill him.

Simon was the star of the episode. It'll be interesting to see how his disobedience to Negan plays out.

Re: The Walking Dead

S08E12 - action packed.

Spoiler:
The Saviours head off to Hilltop with the plan to wound as many of the A-team as possible with zombie-gut-stained weapons, but Negan says nobody is to be killed outright. Just scare 'em.

Rick, after a brief chat with Daryl over the latter's attack on Sanctuary, heads out on lookout duty. He sees the Saviours' convoy and rather than sound the alarm he decides to chase the convoy.

In the narrow streets of a nearby town, Rick speeds down a side street and clips the back of Negan's car (last in the convoy). Simon sees it happen but can't run around quickly in the narrow street. Rick chases Negan and causes his car to flip over.

Simon gives order for the Saviours to form a perimeter and stay put while he and Dwight go look for Negan.

Rick angrily unloads a hail of bullets at Negan's flipped car. Negan runs for his life into a nearby building. Just as Rick predictably runs out of bullets Negan scales some stairs then smirks at Mr Grimes. Rick hurls his hatchet at him, which causes Negan to fall and tumble over a ledge. As he hangs on, Rick attempts to chop his hands, causing Negan to fall through a hole in the floor.

Maggie finds a message from a group offering the "key to the future" for some crates of food. Maggie, Michonne, Rosita and Enid go out to meet the offerers, who are lead by a woman named Georgie. After much too-ing and fro-ing, Maggie accepts the offer and is given plans to all sorts of survival technology (windmills, grain processing equipment etc, etc), information that can help create a new future. Georgie and crew head off saying they will be back but expect great things from Hilltop.

In a maze of dusty corridors, Negan rummages about for Lucille but can't find her. Yelling, he attempts to do a deal with Rick, offering to reduce the current 50% take to 25%. Rick says why would he trust Negan after the Saviours wiped out the Garbage People? Negan now realises that Simon defied him and slaughtered Jadis's people.

Rick stumbles upon Lucille and lights the bat on fire, then starts to bash his way into a labelled room containing walkers, with the plan to release them to attack Negan. Negan tackles him from behind and they wrestle among burning zombies. Rick gets the upper hand but Negan escapes through a window. When Rick exits the building Negan is gone.

Simon and Dwight return to the Saviours and say they will go on without Negan. Simon however says the plan is changed. He wants Hilltop and its people eliminated.

Unconscious Negan wakes in a car. It is driven by Jadis and she has a gun to Negan's head.

S08E13.

Spoiler:
Maggie leaves the Hilltop gate open to attract Simon's Saviours in and not have them wreck the gates. Simon's crew fall for it but get ambushed by the good guys once inside the Hilltop fence.

Using contaminated weapons the Saviours do a little damage but largely get mown down and have to flee. Dwight saves Tara from a Simon hacking by nicking her with an arrow. Given Dwight's new allegiance with the Good Guys, one assumes his weapon was not tainted with zombie guts, germs & disease.

The injured in Hilltop begin to die and turn in the night, lead by Tobin. Lots get chewed until enough Good Guys wake up and slay the zombies, including Carol, who kills former squeeze, Tobin zombie.

The dumbo scene of the episode is young Henry opening the pen containing the captured Saviours on the pretext of getting to confront his brother's killer (even though he had already been told that dead Gavin, who is now haunting Morgan, was the killer). Not surprisingly Henry is overpowered, has his gun stolen and allows the Saviours Mk II to escape.

The group fronts the injured Tara, thinking she's been contaminated.

Ep ended with Maggie possibly reassessing her need for revenge as she looks at the graves of those lost overnight.

Plenty of action, but no advance on Jadis' capture of Negan.

Re: The Walking Dead

Post by skully on Mon 02 Apr 2018, 13:53

S08E14.

Spoiler:
Decent ep.

Jadis has Negan back at Garbage City but somehow let's him get to her bag (though he's tied to a trolley) and get a gun, a flare and some precious Polaroids. He threatens to light them up, then we get the story of Lucille and how it was his wife's name, and the bat is the last piece of her that he has left of her. Anyway, they wrestle, and the flare is extinguished just as a helicopter comes over. So they don't get seen.

Negan basically promises to make things right for Jadis and she releases him. Presumably making things right means killing Simon.

Tara tells Daryl it's been a day since she was wounded and she hasn't turned, which is proof that Dwight hit her with a clean arrow, confirming his good guy status. Daryl is still not buying it.

Morgan and Carol head out to chase down the escaped Saviours and find Henry. But they go their separate ways when Morgan wants to kill the Saviours but Carol wants to find Henry.

Rick heads out and meets up with Morgan. They get blindsided and wake up being held captive by the escaped Saviours. As a big herd approaches, Rick gives his word that if they release him he will give them a fresh start at Hilltop. I was a bit shocked to see Rick and Morgan kill all the escaped Saviours after they were released. Rick lied!!

Negan picks up a mystery person (who looks like shit apparently*) and heads back to Sanctuary, where he tells the guards to keep his arrival secret. One imagines he is gonna make Simon (and possibly Dwight) piss his pants.

Daryl and Rosita watch Eugene getting ready to make more bullets with his bullet making device. Presumably they want to put a stop to this production line.

Ep ends with Rick reading Carl's letter to him.

Interesting juxtaposition of Rick as the bad guy and Negan as sort of the good guy.

Re: The Walking Dead

Post by skully on Mon 09 Apr 2018, 05:48

S08E15.

Spoiler:
A bit meandering but finished solidly.

Negan deals with Dwight as a ploy against Simon. Negan reprieves Simon just when it looked like he might bash his brains in. Negan shows the leadership group (including Dwight and Simon) his plans to sniper attack Hilltop and pick everyone off.

Oceanside chicks wander the forest while Aaron attempts to follow them. He survives a zombie attack and wakes up surrounded by the girls, telling them they have no choice but to fight the Saviours.

Rosita and Daryl capture Eugene (and tell him what scum he is) but he gets away when a zombie horde approaches. He returns to the bullet making factory with renewed vigour to take vengeance on Hilltop.

Simon calls a meeting of the willing to discuss taking Negan down but Dwight has informed Negan. After the willing are killed, rather than bash Simon with Lucille, Negan gives him the chance to fight hand to hand for his life. The fight ends with Negan choking Simon to death (he ends the ep as a Sanctuary fence zombie). While the fight ensues Dwight sends Gregory off to Hilltop with a copy of Negan's map to warn Rick and crew.

Negan thanks Dwight for his allegiance but it turns to shit when he enters his room and sees Laura, who Negahad picked up in last week's ep. She dished on Dwight's two-timing, so Negan used him to send a fake attack plan to Hilltop, to lead them into a trap.

Michonne calls Negan on the walkie-talkie and reads Carl's letter, which urges that Negan and Rick make peace. Negan says Hilltop will die and it's all Rick's fault, then smashes the walkie-talkie.

So we are all set for a big showdown in the S8 Finale next week.

Re: The Walking Dead

Post by skully on Mon 16 Apr 2018, 05:32

S08E16. Season Finale.

Spoiler:
An unusual finale with everything going the Good Guys' way, with the unlikely hero being Eugene. No cliffhanger to end this one.

Negans's plan to trap the A-team in a clearing works perfectly, except just as the Saviours are set to massace the Good Guys, all their weapons backfire. Eugene had sabotaged all the bullets that his group manufactured. He had earlier given Negan a pistol with working bullets to fire to prove all was good.

Then as a splinter Saviour group goes to attack the remaining Hilltop community, the Oceanside girls firebomb them.

Rick and an injured Negan have a stand-off, with Negan about to bash Rick with Lucille. Rick buys time with talk of Carl's dream, then when Negan is distracted, Rick slashes his throat with a shard of broken glass.

Rick then orders Saddiq to save him. Maggie screams "No!!!" and breaks down, demanding vengeance for Glenn.

Daryl sends Dwight away. Morgan goes to Jadis (real name Anne) at Garbage Town and tells her to go to Hilltop, but he stays, saying he needs solitude.

Rick and Michonne tell a recovering Negan that he will be held in a cell as proof of the A-team's mercy to provide hope for the future.

It seems the main source of story continuance for S9 is an apparent split in the A-team, with Maggie and Daryl unhappy with Rick's decision not to kill Negan, though accepting of the decision not kill all the other Saviours. They tell Jesus that they will rebuild but when the time's right, Rick and Michonne will be taken down.
