1st test - Ashes sweepstakes
I suggest that those interested nominate the half hour when the Test will be decided.
I predict the 2nd half hour after tea on the 3rd Day.
Result - England by an innings and 10 wickets

Re: 1st test - Ashes sweepstakes
Twatto injury and schoolgirl pout- Second session, day 2.
First on-field confrontation- 40 minutes into day 1. Warner, Haddin, Wade (running onto the field with the drinks) Trott, and Broad to be involved, accompanied by Warnie on commentary "this is what you like to see in an Ashes contest...a bit of niggle!" and Lord Gower trying to condemn it, "well yes, perhaps but, umm, there is niggle and there is crossing the line, and some might say that perhaps, possibly, after a great deal of debate and consideration, that this is going too far?"

First Zim "FFS, we's hella screwed" @ 11:18 when we're 15-5 with Hughes not out 8 (from two streaky outside edges) after winning the toss.
Game over just before lunch on day 3.

Re: 1st test - Ashes sweepstakes
I'm being serious horrie. England have had an air of complacency around them for the last couple of weeks. The Aussies have a potentially very good bowling attack. They could well catch us on the hop, and with a flat pitch likely, the Aussie FTB batsmen could fill their boots.

Re: 1st test - Ashes sweepstakes
I think England's fortunes are critically dependent on Anderson; he could set a disastrous tone for Australia's series in the first half hour.
I hope my earlier prophecy (which is my real fear if Australia bats first, and Anderson wreaks havoc) will be undone by England winning the toss, and batting, with Australia's bowlers putting in an effort which is at least moderately credible.

Re: 1st test - Ashes sweepstakes
I'm going off line now ... but I might post something tonight if I am not completely rooted, pissed, or suicidal after a dismal Australian performance; after that I won't be doing anything until Manchester, as I suspect I'll be out and about most likely seeing less cricket than those of you at home watching it on GEM.
No JC-style reports though. Prosaic rather than poetical.

I'll do it day by day. Aus to win the toss and bat. About 305 for 4 or 5 by close.
Re: 1st test - Ashes sweepstakes
Aus win the toss and bat. All out 180 just after Tea, setting the tone for the rest of the series, as Aus loses by an innings and plenty.

Re: 1st test - Ashes sweepstakes
The conditions (admittedly I haven't seen the pitch) are ripe for batting.

After 6 overs Watson tweaks a hamstring and is out of the tour. Warner who is at Jo'burg airport is told to get on the next plane back to England.

We've managed to avoid the likelihood of this happening.

It was actually four overs and it's a calf and he isn't out of the tour yet, but not bad!
