S04E12. WTF? Season Finale of Family Ties??!!

Spoiler:
An hour of dribble revolving around Carrie's Dad's funeral and wake. Her long lost Mum shows up but Carrie tells her to fark off, but then drives to Missouri to tell her to fark off again, after learning her Mum was a root rat who fell preggers to her latest shag, and ran off. Carrie briefly meets her half-brother Tim.

Quinn makes the wake then promptly wants to jump into Carrie's pants. She says let me think about it, but rings him immediately after the 2nd fark off to her Mum. Quinn is already gone on a black ops mission (unbeknownst to her).

Carrie confronts Dar Adal about Quinn's whereabouts, he tells her he's gone dark, she snaps and says she saw him in Haqqani's car. She threatens to go to the Washington Post, but Adal says Saul's on board and outside. She sees her mentor and walks away.

Ep ends with her driving tearily around.

WTF?

Saw it yesterday, didn't even think it was worth commenting on.

Did they run out of budget or something?

Just awful. They could have at least had Carrie drive off a cliff or sumpent as a lead-in to the apparently* signed up S5.

Homeland came back last week, but I only got around to watching the premiere last night.

I didn't have high hopes, after the way the last season sort of gave up, but it was a solid scene-setting opener. Although one thing seems predictable:

Spoiler:
Saul leaves targets for assassination by Quinn in a locker and he unquestioningly gets on with the job. Guaranteed, Carrie's name will end up in his locker at some point this season and things will get complicated.

Nailed it. Only took one episode. At least they're not f*cking around, dragging it out for weeks on end.

Good ep. Very Homeland-y.

S5E3: steady.

Spoiler:
We're moving along at quite a pace. Three episodes in and we've already had a Carrie mental breakdown. Must be in Claire Danes' contract to give her at least one episode per season where she can shoot for an Emmy.

E4, getting interesting.

Spoiler:
We finally have Carrie and Quinn reunited, and both now on the run after the CIA tried to assassinate them separately. And it turns out Saul's lover may be the one behind it all, working from within the organisation to subvert whatever plans Saul thinks he's in charge of.

Finally getting around to catching up on Season 5. Agree with Dello - S5 rocks along in the tradition of S1 and 2.

S05E04.

Spoiler:
So Allison Carr (CIA Chief in Berlin and Saul's bed mate - silly boy, Saul) is the big baddy for the season. She wants Carrie and Quinn dead, and has farked Saul's plans for a Syrian regime change.

A relief that Saul wasn't the one who wanted to off Carrie.

S05E05.

Spoiler:
So Allison's game is, under Russian KGB guidance, turn Dar Adal against Saul. I can't believe Dar and Saul would fall for this. But as of this ep, Adal seems to think that Saul has gone rogue.

Carrie is on a mission to acquire the contents of the Gabe. H. Coud (Douchebag backwards) hacked CIA docs.

Carrie again seeks allegiance with Saul. Quinn is in very bad shape after the Allison-lead assassination attempt. Some dude is trying to help him though.

Tight episode.

S05E06.

Spoiler:
Carrie meets with Saul, asking for the hacked docs and warns him he's being tailed, but gets told to fark off.

Russian double agent Allison gets her way, as Adal and Saul go at each other's throats. Saul is completely shut out of Berlin office IT access. He twigs that Carrie's warnings were correct and gets a copy of the stolen docs for her and slips them to her boss Otto.

Quinn recovers from his gunshot wounds, due to a good Samaritan, after leaving sanctuary to die to protect Carrie. Turns out the Samaritan is connected (as landlord) to a Syrian terrorist kingpin (Hajik) recently released from a Berlin jail. Hajik attacks Quinn as he is leaving but gets his throat caved in by a Quinn jab.

Otto passes the docs to Carrie.

S05E07.

Spoiler:
Allison shits herself when Saul tells her Carrie is alive and has the docs. KGB Ivan tells her to relax, they'll track Carrie down and kill her.

Carrie gets a lead on an Iraqi lawyer named Ahmed Nazari and tracks him to Amsterdam.

Quinn takes a job as guide for Hajik's mates back to Syria, with Adal's backing.

Adal wants Saul shipped back to Langley in disgrace, but Berenson is abducted before the CIA can get him on the plane.

Carrie pinches Nazari's laptop and almost gets caught by Ivan's henchmen grabbing docs from Nazari's safe.

Turns out Saul was "abducted" by his good Israeli friend Etai.

Carrie calls Allison and arranges a meeting to talk about history in Baghdad. Oh dear.

Re: Homeland

S05E08.

Spoiler:
This is the ep that shows (via flashback) how Allison became a Russian double agent. In 2005, in her role as Baghdad chief, Allison's no.1 intelligence contact, Ahmed Nazari, a lowly local clerk, tricks her into being stung by the KGB. Ivan makes her an offer she can't refuse.

Carrie sets up a meeting with Allison in a little German village. Allison actually saves Carrie's life by not giving an agreed signal to a sniper.

Meanwhile in Kosovo, Quinn is on route to Syria but gets KO'ed as the Syrians load up with gas masks. Turns out the Syrians tricked Quinn and are heading back to Berlin for a major terrorist event. In transit, a bound Quinn comes to and sees the tools of an impending chemical weapon attack.

Under temporary Israeli protection, Saul tries to figure out what has happened in recent days.

Numan (Gabe H. Coud) hacks into Nazari's laptop and contacts Carrie. She twigs that Allison is the link to all the recent carnage.

S05E09.

Spoiler:
Carrie tells Saul that Allison is a Russian double agent, but he struggles to accept it. He realises it explains everything so sets up a sting operation with the Germans.

Quinn realises that the Syrians are planning a Sarin attack in Berlin, and works on one of his captors (Kasim) to find a way out. Turns out the Syrians are gonna test the Sarin on Quinn.

Saul plants bugs on Allison during his final goodbye to her before allegedly accepting asylum from the Israelis.

As part of the sting (watched by Carrie, Saul and a German ops team), the Germans tell Adal and Allison that a senior Moscow intelligence officer wants to defect (with intel). Allison shits herself and eventually runs to Ivan. Saul sends in an arrest team. Ivan realises she's been played. But, as they are arrested, she has a plan. She spins a story that Ivan is her double agent. It buys her time.

Meanwhile, Quinn is taken to the Sarin test chamber. Guilt-ridden Kasim injects Quinn with Atropine (which may help him survive). Ep ends with a convulsing Quinn collapsing.

S05E10.

Spoiler:
Allison continues her story about bringing Ivan into the fold. Dar is conflicted but Saul knows she's a double agent and is filthy.

The Syrians advance their plans of a Berlin Sarin attack by getting a video aired that shows Quinn "dying" from a Sarin dose. It sends the CIA and BND into panic.

Via some distinctive tiles in the video and records on the head Syrian's (Bibi) ATM records, they narrow the possible location of the filming spot to 39 Berlin addresses.

Astrid and Carrie happen upon the right address and find Quinn barely alive. At the end of the ep he is in very bad shape in ICU.

Meanwhile Qasim is in trouble with Bibi, who knows he dosed Quinn with Atropine prior to the gassing.

Allison gets permission to help with the current threat investigations, and while having a ciggy outside signals something to a lady with a red dog.

S05E11.

Spoiler:
Allison gets orders from Moscow to kill a Professor Aziz, the technical mastermind behind the proposed Berlin sarin attack. She does kill him, as well as her minder, and shoots herself in the shoulder to make it look like Aziz tried to kill her. On Russian orders she says the attack will be on Berlin Airport, not the railway station where the attack is about to occur.

The Syrians have technical problems and realise they have to set of the attack manually, rather than remotely.

Meanwhile, Carrie tracks down the doctor who helped Quinn. This leads to Qasim's flat, where there is obvious signs that the railway station is the target. But by now, the Airport has been evacuated and all resources are centred there.

Carrie goes to the railway station, texts Saul that she has seen Qasim there. Allison is ghosted away by a Russian posing as a doctor.

Ep ends with Carrie running down the tunnel after Qasim.

S05E12. S5 Finale.

Spoiler:
Carrie gets to Qasim, who has decided he can't go through with the gassing. He goes to Bibi, but is shot for his trouble. He grabs Bibi and distracts him. Carrie pumps numerous bullets into him, thwarting the sarin attack.

Saul does a deal with Ivan to seal Allison's fate.

Quinn has a cerebral haemorrhage and seems to come out of post-op as a vegetable. Dar Adal gives Carrie a letter from Quinn.

Carrie wants to reset the relationship with Jonas but he breaks it off.

Saul offers Carrie a promotion and autonomy to return to Langley and the CIA. She turns him down.

Laura agrees to BND terms to rescind her claims against the BND to save Numan.

Otto has fallen for Carrie and offers her a partnership in life and business. He tells her to go back to the US to think about it.

Allison is being slipped out of German in the boot of a Russian SVR vehicle. It is detoured then pumped full of bullets. Saul sees Allison cut-to-ribbons body.

Ep ends with Quinn's voice-over reading the letter to Carrie. Seems he may be brain dead.

Show has been renewed for Season 6.

Re: Homeland

Post by skully on Tue 02 May 2017, 05:52

Just finished watching season 6. It was a pretty strong season.

Spoiler:
Season revolves around the President Elect Elizabeth Keane and her anti-CIA views, particularly against covert Black Ops run by the likes of Dar Adal and Saul Berenson.

Dar Adal goes to extreme lengths to convince the Prez Elect that she needs to take the need for Black Ops seriously, including funding an extreme far right Alex Jones InfoWars style TV show called Real Truth, that creates thousands of fake social media accounts that express outrage against Ms Keane. Dar also concocts an apparent parallel nuclear weapon program being run in secret by Iran and North Korea.

Carrie runs interference to Dar's plans until he organising for her daughter Franny to be removed from her custody.

However Dar's problem is that he is in league with a rogue General, Gen. McClendon (Tea-bag from Prison Break), who takes things way beyond Adal's plans and attempts to assassinate Ms Keane. However, thanks to Carrie's smarts and Quinn's tenacity, the assassination attempt is thwarted, with Saul barely surviving a bombing of the Prez Elect's motorcade. Unfortunately, Quinn is killed in the process of saving Ms Keane.

Dar ends the series in prison, trying to convince Saul that he never thought his plan would get so out of control. Saul just nods knowingly after saying he wished Dar had given him a chance to talk him out of the plan.

The series ends with Carrie being offered a plumb posting as Nation Security adviser to the Prez, but it all goes to shit when the now Prez and her Chief of Staff arrange for a swag of top officials (including Saul) to be arrested for conspiracy to kill the Prez.

All set up for S7. Once again Claire Danes spent most of the season battling her manic-depressive demons and not getting through any episodes without choking on tears. Rupert Friend's performance as the sarin-stroke-affected Peter Quinn was outstanding. Such a shame he has been killed off. Mandy Pitinkin remains Carrie's mentor, rock and calming influence as Saul Berenson.
