Agree both you and WW would be terrors on the remote.

I gave up tipping here after I was in Ireland when an Irish bred mare streeted the field in the Irish St Leger. She made the late great Red Cadeaux look like the sort of hack I would once ride.

Following her win she was bought by Australian interests and entered in Melbourne Cup. I tipped her and unfortunately JGK followed my tip to his subsequent disgust when she ran a poor race.

Your tip was looking good until JGK jumped on the bandwagon - no chance after that.

phentermine - not a drug that's easy to obtain, and certainly not one that you'd stumble over accidentally in a cold and `flu tablet.

Big strife.

Third.

Went quick early but the winner got her at the 200.

Little Cav just won her first race (in her second start) - a maiden at Geelong.

Today in the Warwick Stakes, Winx missed the start by 4 or 5 lengths but was still able to get up & win in the last few strides. One punter had a huge bet at the ridiculously short odds & may have had a heart attack when she made a mess of the start.

A well named three year old debuted recently.

The Gatting Ball.

The sire is Hard Spun & the dam is Art Of Deception

21 in a row for Winx.

Next step - a shot at third Cox Plate and genuine racing immortality (if she doesn't already have it) if she wins and equals The King's record.

Crikey Ww. Did you back it? Mate of mine who runs a small betting busines won a comp on Ch68. If Amelies Star won he would have picked up 20 large. Sadly for him I tipped AS.

Re: The Horse Racing Thread

Post by WideWally on Sun 05 Nov 2017, 12:53

I'm not very keen on this year's Cup.

I will be backing Humidor & Rekindling, but not with much confidence.

I think Humidor is the best horse in the race but am not certain if he will get the 3200m. His sire Teofilo was an unbeaten champion 2yo who didn't race after that because of injury. However he was made the Winter favourite for the Derby & being by Galileo would inherit stamina. At stud he has been quite succesful & a couple of his Gp 1 winners won over 2 miles or longer (Voleuse de Coeurs & Quest For More) but overall his progeny are probably better suited around ten furlongs. Humidor's dam won over 2100m & is by a stamina influence Zabeel. However Humidor's 3rd dam was the champion sprinter Habibti.

When I watched the St Leger at Doncaster, I was very impressed with the finishing burst of Rekindling & thought at the time he would be a big chance in the 2018 Melbourne Cup. However, he is over here for this year's running & I am a little concerned that he is only a Northern Hemisphere 3yo despite appearing in our form guides as a 4yo. I just think he is a progressive horse who probably has improved since the St Leger.

I will also include Almandin, Marmelo, Johannes Vermeer & Libran in my quadys, trifectas & first 4s & maybe also Ventura Storm, Big Duke & Thomas Hobson in quadys if I can narrow down the other legs to one or two runners (I'm hoping Odeon gets a start in the second leg).

My main aim will be not to spend too much money this year. It is too difficult.

Good luck everyone.

Good to say you're not sentimental. No boom time? Humidor almost ran down a pretty handy nag and is probably knackered and I have a soft spot for the quirky...go tiberian. I wouldn't discount the northern 3yo either.

No idea. Mrs L is talking up Almandin and Amelie's star. My best chance is the office sweep.
