We have always been a sucker for the dive. It comes from our instinct to play hard but fair. The rest of the soccer world has no qualms about this form of cheating.

I reckon you'd stop diving at senior levels pretty quickly by saying that EVERY game will be reviewed for the sole purpose of looking for people who are diving and they will be awarded retrospective yellow cards.

Especially in big tournaments in leagues.

BTW - I just saw the extended highlights of the Netherlands v Spain match. A RvP - Robben partnership under LVG would look good at Old Trafford.

There is too much dirty money in FIFA for that to ever happen.

That's 3 World Cups in a row now that Aust's opening match has had 4 goals.

They shouldn't be awarded retrospective yellow cards, they should be given a one match foul amnesty: no matter what happens to you in the following game, the referee can't award you a free kick or penalty for it - he has to assume you're faking it.

That'd cut it right out. Or end their careers in a crumpled heap of smashed bones. Either result works for me.

So Spain - crafty buggers. They're all lulled now.

What happened to Oz's gold generation? Apart from Kale, the team looks pretty green now.

Spain lost their first game in the last World Cup didn't they. Still, looks like Brazil in round 2 at best now.

As for Oz, Timmy is the lady and he's 34. I think only Schwarzer in goal would have made a difference today. The young uns look like they have some heart mind you, if. Perhaps they are missing some quality.

Who was the Australian keeper?

Commentators said he came highly rated.
Fark me the goalie was ordinary as. Elvis would have done better.

It could be a match made in hell (if you're a Pommie supporter).

Here's hoping I'm in "constructive pessimism" mode. And it's 1-1 or something. Wink
