Well I guess, but on one hand I feel like I'm dying a slow death, as I desperately don't want him to equal or even better Federer's haul of slams, but it feels inevitable that he will get there in the next 2-3 years.lardbucket wrote:Vilks will be in heaven.
Small victories like this are great but in a sense it is prolonging the inevitable agony.

Yeah, not sure what he's got left in the tank in terms of winning another grass/hard court major, but he could get the record just through turning up for a few more years at the French, which he could win on one leg, assuming no clay court world-beater emerges in the meantime.
The "changing of the guard" to date largely just seems to amount to veterans like Wawrinka, Cilic and Berdych stepping up to the plate to challenge the established top four. The gap has narrowed but the new generation still aren't bridging it.

Good win for the Brit over the Greek Malaysian.
Kyrgios is certainly a talent, but it almost seems like he needs to take the game a bit more seriously at times.

Rather silly article from Australia on the "inequalities" of tennis:
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/tennis/gap-between-the-haves-and-have-nots-in-tennis-continues-to-widen/story-fnibcgxs-1227200656908?sv=c5c5d0103006c0d970858177939349bb
Absolutely pointless to compare it with team sports. It's an individual game and players ranked 150 are of no relevance whatsoever and shouldn't have any sense of entitlement at all, they're very lucky to be able to make a living out of the game at all.

The Scot loses a marathon first set in 75 minutes and wins the second 6-0 in about 25.
Weird game.
Berdych is fragile as usual. The Scot to win in 4.

Meh squared. These farkers have it easy. They have no clue of what Laver et al went through in the early days of the pro tours.

Re: Australian Tennis Open 2015
Well, Murray more than matched Djokovic for two and a bit sets, but has caved in dramatically after that. Very poor to lose his cool and be bageled in the last set, but mostly high quality, high intensity tennis, and Djokovic is so relentless, whenever he looks like he might be beaten he finds another gear.
For all the talk of Nadal surpassing Federer's Slam title record, I wouldn't be surprised if Djokovic comes out on top of the lot eventually. Another 10 titles at age 27 is perhaps a lot to ask, but Federer and Nadal perhaps don't have much left in the tank, he's generally got the measure of Murray, and the others, for now, have nowhere near the consistency to take more than one major a year between them off the established names. If Nadal's not fully fit for Paris, this could be the best chance we'll ever see for someone to do the calendar year Grand Slam in the men's game.

Except for those that have already done it.

Looks a bit of a classic, except for the 5th set. A shame for Murray to implode. Congrats to the Joker.

I was watching the cricket so didn't see any of the tennis, but the nooz highlights of the Joker's wobbly leg moments looked weird and a tad contrived. Just MHO.

2016 tournament has started.
Tomic loses the first set against Istomin who might be surprised that the level of support he has.
