Do we get to call you "Why do you ask?"?

Might as well.   It would match the answer I gave to my wife on the day when she called me out of the blue and asked "Are you going to be mad with me?"

I trust she gave a furry (or fashionably not) peace offering?

I see the UK has just changed the pension rules.

Seems sensible.

The way I understood it was that if you had a private pension you had to convert it to an annuity on redemption. Now you have the option, after 55, to cash it in and use it how you like but only the first 25% will be tax free.

Got it. There was some talk that they'd move to the Aust model of allowing you to cash everything in but they look to have backtracked on that. A good thing too because one of our businesses is to manage long term infrastructure debt and a couple of our mandates were put on hold after the initial thought bubble.

The Aust system needs a halfway house like that to.

I think you can cash the lot in but you have to pay the tax. Some similar to the SA system.

I've never got that bit about people not enjoying retirement.  It has always been my aim to retire as soon as humanly possible/practical.  The slowest day doing nothing has to me has always been less boring than the busiest day at work.
Aye, same here. 14 years, 1 month to go until I can get at my super, which thanks to working in a sector that pays well above the SG rate, should be fairly healthy. I don't anticipate to get anything from the Govt by the time I retire...
