So, a sporting wicket, or a flat track to allow Smiffy to find some form?

And how's ABdV's hand?

Cape Town is usually a good batting pitch, apart from a brief period between 2006 and 2008 when the Curator f*cked up both the pitch and the outfield.

A lot of the Saffie top six haven't played any first class or test cricket since January, so I reckon they'll play it safe with a flattie.

Yeah there's a good chance they'll play both Harris and Tahir, with Kallis as third seamer. Provided they aren't ordered by higher powers to play Tsotsobe.

Steyn is an excellent exponent of reverse swing so he should be ok. Giraffe Morkel might not be thrilled, though.

I notice that AB made 12 having a hit tonight but was out obstructing the field. One of his teammates in the tail was also out obstructing the field. The Lions will be chasing 380 against the Cobras so they have a bit of fun in their 50 over version of hit and giggle.

Also heard this morning they were preparing a slower, spinning track and are perhaps banking on Tahir who hasn't been seen much by the Aussies to do the trick. If they don't play both spinners they might opt for Philander ahead of Tsotsobe to help shore up their woeful tail.

What are the odds on two Saffies being given out obstructing the field, but neither of them being Jacques Kallis? You couldn't make it up.

Probably a direct result of the new law change, where a batsman who is judged to have deviated from his running line in order to prevent the ball from hitting the stumps (a common practice up until now) is deemed out obstructing the field.

You'd imagine one reason they might opt for a slower track is that during the last series the only one which was flatter and where Australia played a spinner, the Saffies one in a canter. When they tried to produced greentops it backfired. They lost all tosses in that series but it was clear that the oz bowlers adapted better to the prevailing conditions than the local ones when it was a seamer's track.

Also noticed that young Richard Levi made 110 off 57 balls. He was selected to play against us in T20 yet they didn't give him a gig.

Can't wait for him to move to England and open the batting with the current captain.

Not that his opinion means much, but Malcolm Conn basically said in the Sunday Telegraph today that Ponting is batting for his career in this series. And he's probably right there.

Sherlock Conn?

That is true of every series for Ponting since he lost the captaincy.

Vincent Barnes is, and has always been a total twat.

In fact he is so twattish that I cannot think of any one other than Red who would read his utterences.

As I said on the Potch match thread, he sounds like an idiot. Maybe he's annoyed that Donald has taken over his gig. Siddle was on this morning though saying how the Aussie bowlers are using his comments as extra motivation to show the Saffie batsmen a thing or two.
