Re: AFL 2017
With any luck we might get one decent finals game.

Agree, would surprise if the AFL has the balls to rub him out, but clearly if they're consistent, he's gone. If it was round twelve, there would be no discussion of this.
MRP rules:
Rough Conduct (High Bumps)
The AFL Regulations provide that a Player will be guilty of Rough Conduct
where in the bumping of an opponent (whether reasonably or unreasonably)
the Player causes forceful contact to be made with any part of his body to an
opponent’s head or neck.
Cotchin should go if they follow them. Bartel who resigned from the panel said that they don't tend to take into consideration the football aspect of things.
Lloyd and Lyon think he's gone. The debate is raging.
The decision will likely polarise the footy community.
Still had he not whacked guys earlier in the year, or had he been rubbed out for them, a fine here could have seen him play.

Re: AFL 2017
If only, a month out from the finals and with a nobody team coming up the next week, Cotch had had the brains to waltz up to the ump and loudly out his (ie the ump's) mother as a closet wearer of military footwear, or something....he misses a week, his naughty points are re-set at zero, he plays on Saturday.
If Cotch gets waved through this afternoon, then six hours later Dusty finishes second behind Danger, the SBM idiotocracy does a Hindenburg which the fish-wrappers will lap up but Gilligan will hate. It would not be any great surprise for the footage to slip under somebody's couch until tomorrow.

Predictably the MRP threw their regulations out the window amid GF hysteria outcries. What I don't get is how many people said that it would be a travesty if Cotchin didn't play. What about Shiel who was playing very well missing out on the rest of the prelim?
The MRP said the contact wasn't unreasonable so now they will have to discard the outcome of bumps, clashes as a factor in their decisions. This year it very much was. The fact that this didn't even attract a fine is mindblowing. Even some hard-nosed ex-footballers thought under the high contact part of the clash with Shiel, it had to be considered as such.
Shiel had the ball in his hands, Cotchin tucked his shoulder in and cannoned into Shiel. Now players have every right to go for the ball with their shoulder tucked in as if their choice is to bump first, or at least brace for contact and not make the ball the primary object.

OK so apparently* Cotchin didn't knock Shiel into the middle of the Spring Racing Carnival. but Some Other Bloke did.
What now happens to Some Other? (Cue refs to bad Ashley Judd plots, 3....2....1....)

Lol @AFL. The tigers are this year's anointed fairy story. Playing at home and will vet a leg-up from the umps.

Shiel is not attending the Brownlow under doctor's orders due to concussion. According to Mark Williams, he feels "cheated" by the MRP.

Not making light of concussion as a medical issue at all and if he's still feeling the effects that's not a laughing matter, but 98% of the guys Dylan played with or against this year would pay good money for rights to that excuse to avoid the most shitlessly boring night of the AFL year

Not surprised, no, but disappointed that the cynicism is so well-founded.

I repeat: now that it has been found that it was Dave Astbury that laid Shiel out, why isn't he being hauled up?

Maybe they could have saved some money during the pay saga by making the cb optional?

Clearly the best thing to do if you do whack one of the oppo players in the head is get all your team-mates to whack him in the head as well; well, as many as can whack him before he's dragged off unconscious.

According to Mark Williams whose daughter is dating Shiel, he was concussed in the Cotchin incident.
Agree the Brownlow is horribly boring but some go along for the free drinks.

Why wasn't this valuable inside information made available to the relevant authorities instead of loud-hailed all over the meeja (SB and other)?

BTW, according to Shiel, he had blurred vision after the Cotchin incident.
Any danger of non-midfielders polling well.!
WOW Dangerfield! Without the suspension he could have taken the Brownlow too.

Re: AFL 2017
Two blokes going low for the ball
If Cotchin had gone in standing up the Shiel would have given away a free for low contact
'Would you really want a player to miss a grandfinal/brownlow for that?' should be the consideration before every suspension ...especially for football acts
The AFL MRP have a mess to clean up but I think Cotchin being cleared was correct

So an act which gets you rubbed out mid-season is OK in a PF?

Yep Danger continued to poll well.
Even tho it is a midfielders medal, kudos to Buddy F for finishing 5th.

Someone once suggested that was because they were most often in the umps field of view. Used wild man from the lions and his wierd hair as proof of the catch the umps eye theory.
