'Successor' to Sutherland?

Post by horace on Sat 07 Jan 2017, 16:58

Was I feverish or is it true?

I think that amongst the verbiage I read yesterday, there was an article speculating that Sutherland may leave.

Yippee, I muttered, Life is on the up.

But then the last two paras caught my eye. It turns out David ffs Gallup is a keen cricket fan. He could be the right person...blah, blah....successful record as CEO in NRL ...blah, blah...and in the soccer!

Meh, Gallop is a pretty smart operator. The only reason he got flicked from the NRL was that he stood up to the chairman & board over the Melbourne Storm cheating debacle. He issued the sanctions for their two sets of books scandal without Board approval. This lead to his eventual untenable position with the Board.

Meh right back at you!

He was lopped from NRL for multiple reasons, not least his relations with the fan base. I think he is more shrewd accountant than strategic leader.

His public presentation skills are diabolic.

'Don't touch Galop with a barge-pole because he pisses off the fan base too much - go for Demetriou instead.' What is wrong with that sentence?

Thanks JG, I need to rephrase the question. to '.....What TWO things are wrong with this sentence?'

My one criticism of Andy. Is how soft he was on infractions by clubs like the Dons, Blues and Pies.

But the point is Demetriou is a unifying figure compared to divisive Dave.

Dunno enough about Gallup to comment but you could rely on the Big A to 'show leadership' in the cornflakes-packet-MBA sense of 'do stuff the smoke-filled room likes but the punters hate'....he's very good at unifying the Major Stakeholders against the rest.

True polly...but I think he left game in a better state than he found it. Of course he was but one of many positive influences during that period.

I was very unimpressed with the fat Greek's efforts during the supplement scandal. Dare I say Gallop may have done something much more decisive?

Not his best moment. The Drugons were not as flexible as the Sharks and AD could not move them.
