The main contenders are Froome. Porte, Quintana, Bardet, Aru, Contador, Valverde & Fuglesang.
I think Porte will start slight favorite ahead of Froome but it will only take a crash or a puncture or a bungled stage to bring the others into contention.
Too early to pick a definitive favorite.
Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical 2017
Froome - Porte - Valverde imo. If Contador stays upright, then he's second, but he doesn't very often these days. Equally, I also can see Porte being the biggest disappointment among the GC riders.
With the route, one ambitious breakaway can Voeckler many GC chances. Should be plenty of sprints, or a strong breakaway sticks (if lucky), a Buchmann or Bennett type rider could challenge.
Ag2r are an decent team for the team classification. Very strong set of riders. Movistar are likely to win, but Ag2r can be very close.

I agree. Porte is no hope. Something really weird will happen to him. My prediction - At some stage of the race he will collide with the Devil. As they are both lying on the ground, the Devil makes him an offer. Porte sells his soul to the Devil in the hope of winning the Tour. But he doesn't realise that this is not the real Devil. This is just some bloke in a costume. Another Tour, another disappointment.

Opening day, and Valverde's out. Damn shame. Porte and Contador sucked, and Froome and Sky were fantastic.

Porte gone already. Might as well cash in my lay bet on him now.

Porte was very conservative due to the bad weather & it will probably cost him any chance of winning. At least he is still upright.
Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical 2017
Stage favourite Peter Sagan wins from Michael Matthews but had a momentary concern when his foot slipped off the pedal 200m from the finish.

Better stage by Porte who moves up to 20th place. Still 47s behind Thomas.
Looks like another stage for the sprinters coming up.

That looks flatter than a flat thing; Twiggy had two bumps bigger than that.

Thats pretty sensational. Sagen is one of the most popular riders in the tour & was odds on to take another green jersey.
Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical 2017
He stuck a useful elbow on Cavendish, resulting in him hitting the side barriers, crashing and breaking his shoulder.

The biff continued post race.
Richie Porte was involved in a heated disagreement with a rival rider from Team Fortuneo-Oscaro that got physical before the pair were separated.

Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical 2017
Slight nudge with the elbow & Cavendish hits the pavement. You've gotta be able to take a bump better than that. Djamolidine Abdoujaparov would have sent him sprawling every race.

Sagan is appealing his DQ. Won't do any good. They won't reverse the decision.

Cavendish has given more elbows than that in the past, with clear intent. After watching tonight it was not clear to me at all that Sagan had done anything wrong.

Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical 2017
He did. Definitely led with his elbow. Racing incident, yes. Quite a harsh punishment to kick him out of the race (then again, Renshaw's headbutt didn't lead to any broken bones)... But he has previous this year and I guess the UCI would've been keeping close tabs on him.lardbucket wrote:WideWally wrote:Slight nudge with the elbow & Cavendish hits the pavement. That's him shoving away Maxime Vantomme at the Gent Wevelgem. Completely uncalled for, as it wasn't close to the finish, and was on the Kemmelberg so not really uncontrollable speeds.

Most of the big names now in the top ten. The cream is rising to the top.
Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical 2017
Stage 6 will be a sprinters benefit. With Cav & Sagan gone it will be a good chance for Kittel, Mathews, T Martin & Demare to stake their claims. Stage will be dominated by breakaway groups i predict.
