London Fire

Post by Big Dog on Wed 14 Jun 2017, 23:18

High Rise fire in London looks pretty bad. Shoddy cladding being blamed for the spread of the fire. A lot of awkward questions will be asked over this. London can't take a trick at the moment.

12 confirmed dead so far. This is sure to rise.

It was home to over 600 people. It's almost certain that many of them didn't escape. No

Awful stuff.

And the head of the council that ignored all the warnings that this building was a disaster waiting to happen must be pondering a bullet to the brain at the moment. Or they're searching frantically for their passport and a one way ticket to Panama......

Senator Nick Xenaphon is calling for an enquiry into similarly clad building in Aus. Apparently* the "new" cladding (put on a few years ago for "looks") on the London building went up like cardboard, greatly enhancing the deadly nature of the fire.

Muslim residents of London's Grenfell Tower, who were awake during the night because they were observing Ramadan, helped save lives after a deadly fire tore through the block early on Wednesday, witnesses said.

A local woman told a gathering outside the block that more people would have died if not for the actions of a number of Muslim boys.

She said the boys knocked on doors, yelling in an attempt to alert residents in the absence of fire alarms.

"If it wasn't for all these young Muslims, young boys round here - coming from mosques ... people would have [died]. A lot more people would have [died]," she said.

Nice juxtaposition with the other two recent tragedies in London.

Bourbon it is:

https://justcremations.com.au/about-us/jacks-story/

Jack’s Story

meet-jack
In a nut shell, Jack is the Just Cremations ‘mascot’.

We all know someone like him, the ‘good old boy’, the bawdy ‘Aussie Larrikin’, so we created ‘Jack’, a fictional character, to represent everything about the ‘no fuss’ spirit.

He’s not fancy, but he knows what he likes, and he won’t compromise that for anyone.

He loves his wife, his dog, meat pies and a cheeky bourbon, and obviously (if you’ve seen his most infamous ad), he doesn’t mind a bit of nude camping.

He is what he is: ‘no fuss’.

Marg was created a bit later on in the story, mostly to keep Jack company and out of trouble!

Hard to believe the building didn't have sprinklers, no fire alarms, had one staircase, only two lifts and that deadly cladding.

If that's the case, someone will end up in jail.

Easy. 600+ residents, and from floor 8 up would've struggled to get out.

Well builders/engineers may be in trouble, but moreover the council. Many residents had complained about issues with the building. Their protests met with deaf ears.

Interesting point. This building burned from the ground up for 16 hours & is still standing. The twin towers burned for less than two hours, on the upper floors only, and both collapsed, at freefall speed.

The WTC were weakened by the planes crashing in to them.

They were weakened by the av gas burning at high temperature and melting the steel core of the towers.

At the time of their building, US unions had a stranglehold on the concreting business, jacking up the price, so the WTCs were built around a steel core and a steel exoskeleton. These buckled and collapsed under the enormous heat of the fire.

So, quick look at the scoreboard for "responsible for most horrible deaths in London" in recent years:

Islamic nut jobs - 70 odd
Greedy property owners - 70 odd (could be revised up)

It was owned by one of the richest councils in the UK. Lots of talk that the cladding was put in place to make the building less ugly so they could sell of a bunch of expensive properties which had a view of it.

Not sure why there were no fire alarms and exits though.

And now it looks like that it might have repercussions here in Oz with a bunch of relatively new unit blocks over the last few years being similarly decked out.

More likely 100+ in this event alone.
