Meanwhile, in Tasmania...
...things go from bad to worse
"Fallen Tasmanian forestry group Gunns is to go into administration after banks led by the ANZ pulled the plug on the loss-making company, placing more than 600 jobs at risk.
The move makes more uncertain the fate of its controversial $2 billion Bell Bay pulp mill, already under a cloud after the company flagged in August it was no longer certain to go ahead.

Was a real eye-opener when I ventured south for some Test cricket. Poor old Map of Tassie is really struggling financially.

Gunns corrupted Tassie. Good riddance to them.

More like the Greens corrupted Gunns.
Re: Meanwhile, in Tasmania...
Those qunts can't do anything right. The sooner they become extinct, the better. Brown could obviously see the writing on the wall.

Predictable because its true. The Greens have been waging war against Gunns for decades. They would regularly send delegations overseas to queer Gunn's overseas markets as well as tying up access to timber from the states forests. I'm not excusing Gunn's completely who made some bad decisions but the constant sniping by the greens forced them to take directions they would not have normally taken imho.
Re: Meanwhile, in Tasmania...
Jeez MrK, that has become a very boring response from your good self, made droller by the typo.

I take it that you missed BD's and my rare shared "moment" in responding to one of Horrie's typically jibberish posts last week.

Excellent. I don't dislike many, but I do despise them. Corrupt, conniving, arrogant, bullying, subsidised, disgraceful, stupid, petulant, intransigent, incompetent, vile, scum.

Re: Meanwhile, in Tasmania...
Hey, it's true.
They're f*cked.
Time to open a bottle of decent plonk.
The 645 who lose their jobs temporarily will inevitably be employed by a better employer. They were so intransigent wrt the Pulp mill ... they really brought this on themselves. They were never going to be able to compete with Vietnam, they chose possibly the worst place in the world to plan a Pulp mil,a nd they wouldn't countenance an alternative location.
Our stupid Premier still thinks the Pulp mill can and will be built ... she's a loony, too.
With a bit of luck - and natural justice - their former chairman will end his days in prison.

I realise now that I was hedging my bets, and that my opinion of Gunns might not have been completely clear.

When JG has been locked away for 10 + years for his corrupt insider trading, some justice MIGHT start to have been served. And no, JG, don't expect the taxpayer to fund your defence.

In better news, Tassie has just been voted one of the 4 'must-see' tourism destinations in the world, by Lonely Planet. We certainly need the visitors.

^^ So when visiting is it polite to say hello to both your heads, or does one just ignore the one that's drooling?
Also, in other news, I may need to travel to places called 'Sydney' and perhaps 'Melbourne' in the next year. Who comes up with these names?
