Smashed Avo has the consistency of baby poo. Never touch it.

I read that too. Nelson was an implacable defender of slavery. Interesting the Wilberforce memorial is in spitting distance.

I'd keep the Nelson statue but ensure a more rounded historical account.

BTW, did you read that article I posted in the US Prez Election thread? Inter alia the article raises memorials to Rhodes.

I think that the Confederacy monuments in the US operate as a daily up yours to African Americans and should go.

Last year in New Orleans I went on a tour of a couple of old plantation mansions. Most there give the 'Gone with the Wind' experience with sfa mention of slavery. The last I went to gave the slaves' perspective. It was devastating.

Not the article in your essays thread? Rhodes was a major colonialist, but weren't most of them in those days. It does stick in the craw when I see Rhodes scholars having a go at him.

Yep in the essays thread. Rank historicism can end up in stoopid  attacks or defences of historical figures. As I said I'd keep Nelson (not just because of his first name!) but would ensure a rounded explanatory piece around not just his role as a significant military figure but his role in then contemporary debates, inc his defence of slavery.

As I said above Lee and Jackson memorials are a daily up yours to African Americans and of course should be removed. This does not write them out of history. The history of the civil war and the key roles and positions and socio economic interests will continue to be written, taught and debated.

Those that don't know history are doomed to repeat it

Although it is really hard to precisely repeat history, although the Oz NSP had a really good go at in repeatedly selecting Steak Knives Marsh.

Mr Dog I don't like smashed avocado either. Anything "smashed" in a restaurant smacks of food porn and is to be avoided. About the only things that should be smashed are the poms in the Ashes and capitalism (goes without saying).

Smashed avo on toasted turkish is classic latte set breakfast.

I imagine Plebiscite starts the day with it every day before ringing Shortarse with another name to check the heritage of.

what do you think the MM has for brekky after his morning exercise regime of hitting himself on the tonsure with a brick.

no prizes for guessing what Truffles has grated on brekky eggs.

I shudder to guess what Erics Anazi has for brekky

Some shocking revelations in the OP. Had no idea the our lily-white brothers were such a persecuted lot in Australia.

Perhaps time for a tiki torch march led by the some of the aggravated members here?
