The Penske Fords are apparently* very thirsty. Given their speed this season, it doesn't take a rocket scientist (well, maybe it does!!) to work out that pumping more juice in has made the Ford beasts go faster.

Might be a problem at Mt Panorama though. An extra stop for fuel could cost them dearly.

That's why I love Bathurst. So many things can affect the outcome compared to the sprints.

Looks like it won't be a cakewalk for anyone. Heavy rain forecast late tomorrow.

skully wrote:Of course pole means a lot to the teams and drivers, but in terms of converting it into victory, it has been almost a curse in recent years.

2008 - pole - Tander; winner - Whincup/Lowndes
2009 - pole - Tander; winner - McConville/Richards
2010 - pole - Winterbottom; winner - Lowndes/Skaife
2011 - pole - Murphy; winner - Tander/Percat
2012 - pole - Davison; winner - Whincup/Dumbrell
2013 - pole - Whincup; winner - Winterbottom/Richards
2014 - pole - Van Gisbergen; winner - Mostert/Morris
2015 - pole - Reynolds; winner - Lowndes/Richards
2016 - pole - Whincup; winner - Davison/Webb

No pole sitter has won the race since Greg Murphy in 2003.

Last 3 winners were from outside the Top 10.

So don't write off Whincuo.

Scott McLaughlin lived up to the form he's shown since Thursday, grabbing pole with a lightning 2.03.83.

He beat 2nd place getter David Reynolds by a whopping 0.448s.

That was seriously impressive - he was on the edge the whole lap.

Now watch him crash out in the first 20 laps.

Has Reynolds got the team to compete or or is that kind of form in that car not possible for so long?

Reynolds' team Erebus Motorsports have clocked up plenty of good results. He and his car are capable.

Pole-sitter's curse strikes again. McLaughlin's day is done with an engine failure. Brings out 1st safety car of the day, which is remarkable given the wet conditions.

Hearty congrats to Dave Reynolds, Luke Youlden and little Team Erebus!!! They managed 1st and 4th, thumbing their nose at all the other big teams.

The Giz did the equivalent of being run out after running all the way to the other end then turning and just being short of his ground. He went off 9 times and still finished 5th.
