I had lunch today with 4 former work colleagues, three of whom are British.
They preferred to talk about Scotland's pantsing of Aus in the Rugby.
I was heard quietly chanting "1-0, 1-0, 1-0, 1-0" as I went for the next shout.

The Wallabies under Chubby are by far the worst Oz sporting team. Has their been a decline in the number of 'good schools'?

One Scot, 2 Poms.
I find they play the "British" card for Rugby. Football (soccer) on the other hand...

If Scotland are doing well at football then English supporters will tend to get behind them... hasn’t happened for a long time though!skully wrote:PeterCS wrote:Were they Scots?

Its no so much him as the ARU. I had a long chat recently with Gordon Bray & his view is that the whole hierarchy of the ARU needs to be cleaned out, especially after the Western Force debacle.

Surely that is a different issue and not the decisive factor in the lack of competitiveness on the ground.

Meanwhile it looks like Oz will be unchanged.

Chance of morning and arvo showers on the first two days and cloudy for the the remaining three days. The pitch should be flat as usual, given the heat over the next two days.
Looks like it will be conducive to swing, especially at night.
How Jimmeh must wish the Duke was being used instead of the Kookaburra.
Still I think if the cards fall their way the Pomgolians are a real chance of levelling the series.

It was always thus - but I don't think it's all complete guff - not this article.
It really depends on us seeing the chance *and taking it*. We had a couple and let them slip - your boys had a couple and made them count. I do think we're better than a 5-0 whupping, but it's far from impossible.

Agreed. Plus this Oz team has a colander of holes. This is one of the poorer fielding teams we have assembled. We were lucky in Brisbane when our dropped chances did not overly affect the result. However the fact remains we have an ordinary keeper and Stinking Bog and Uber Koala who are both liabilities.

Jimmy Anderson says Aussie bowling to the England tailenders was “dangerous”. Perhaps someone should give their pace attack a gentle reminder of what happened three years ago this week. At the time we thought no Australian bowler would ever bowl a bouncer again.

Would the poor little petal prefer a steady diet of half volleys?
By 'tail' he can only be referring to himself.

On their last 0-5 tour here, Malfoy distinguished himself by playing the quicks from square leg.

It was Ball who was seemingly getting all the short stuff that the umpires didn’t view as inappropriate.
If our bowlers haven’t got the pace to return the favour with bouncers, there’s always the one that “accidentally” slips out of the hand...

Now now lardy, I think we all know he wasn't suggesting that he (or anyone else) gets fed easy bowling.
On the other hand, beamer did have a point - Phillip Hughes as a top-order batsman with his eye and reflexes misjudged a bumper - it's quite surprising really that there have not been many more very serious injuries over many years.
Having seen some of the first test, I didn't think the Australian bowling was as dangerous as the way JA appears to suggest. On the other hand, a batsman of his quality will soon fend off a lifter around his rib-cage, and in principle I think we'd both agree that the need for bowling a head-high ball to a genuine tail-end bat *should* be a very rare occurrence.

Wasn't that the method that Bradman used against bodyline?

Geez the Poms aren't half protesting too much about the T1 sledging. A sure fire way to guarantee more of it.

They're also apparently upset that Smith was amused by Bancroft's wacky response to being interrogated about the alleged headbutt ... apparently he should not have been amused. A bit hard not to be; Bangers was so refreshingly unpractised and awkward.
