So, after a rigorous and testing tune up against the shitty Bots, the SAffers must be feeling chipper about their upcoming 3 Test series v India.

I note that there are 6 ODIs and 3 T20s after the Tests. The SAffers might be worn out by the time the Aussies arrive in Feb.

Zimbabwe does not deserve test status on that performance.

Markram looks technically sound and determined but needs to meet the challenge of making runs against a test attack before any premature statements are made about his credentials.

There will certainly be selection posers for the home team with Steyn arguably in their best line-up but coming back after a prolonged layoff. Phek would be most likely to give way, but we're led to believe that quotas must be taken into consideration.

Evidently Faf has asked for fast desks against India and slow seamers when we tour.

I haven't broken it down yet but Maharaj has a tidy bowling average of 25-ish after 14 Tests. SR of 51 and economy of 2.94 aren't bad either.

I see he's played Australia, England, NZ, SL, Bangladesh and Zim. No India, Pakistan, WI on his cv yet.

Thanks to quota the lily white and lily livered fans of South Africa have got the chance to see and appreciate real spin in their team. Were on a steady diet of Fat Symcox and Paul Harris prior to that.

Reports coming in that the pitch doctor at Newlands, Evan Flints, is facing a dilemma. Prolonged drought has mean residents in the city have a quota on the number of times they can flush their shit each day. On the other hand, Faf and co have sent out clear instructions to water the pitch abundantly to ensure their is no grip.

Personally, I think Flint would overlook the larger issue facing the residents of his city and cave in to save his job.

I googled his last game ... not great figures, but then nobody did well on that particular road.

With his career figures, which are very respectable, I'd have thought he might have been given more chances. Unbelievable that he was torpedoed for the likes of Boje, Symcox, and Harris??

As above. He totally lost his game. Couldn't even make the provincial side thereafter.

Harris was probably a bit underrated because he kept it tight and acted as a foil for the seamers, while picking up the odd wicket. Think England would like Ali to at least play this role in oz.

Geez, this test is starting even later than the Sydney one. So much for cashing in on the new year holiday.....

It’s sad that this was originally meant to be a four test series, but India opted to play extra ODIs against Sri Lanka, and extra ODIs against the Saffies instead, thus forcing CSA to drop the Boxing Day test AND push the start of this game back by three days to accomodate India....

They did play a test on BD. Alas it was over in under two days due to Zim's incompetence.

Yes it was hastily organised because India decided to cram in more home games rather than come over to South Africa in time for Boxing Day. Six months ago it was scheduled as a four test series.
