Fun in the sun in the Knee of Syd
Those outside Sydney may have caught this on the news...
"M1 Pacific Motorway crash: B-double collides with mobile crane near Brooklyn.
Emergency crews are frantically trying to remove the carnage caused by a fiery collision between a truck and mobile crane early this morning.
A 30 metre section of road was significantly damaged with crews currently on the scene repairing it as quick as they can to ease the 15km congestion.
...
The collision blocked all three northbound lanes at Brooklyn, which ... banked up to 17km."
-------------------------------------------------
I heard about the crash but didn't think much of it, given crashes on the M1, particularly involving trucks, are not uncommon. I headed out at 12.30 pm to go to the shops, crossed the highway to go south to Hornsby and thought "oh fark". Traffic on the old Pacific Hwy stretched 19 kms from the Hawkesbury all the way to back to Hornsby. So I did my shopping and hung around for 90 minutes hoping it might clear, only to learn that the farkers in Roads and Traffic only decided to open a contraflow (sending northbound traffic on the quieter southbound lanes) at 2.00 pm. The crash happened at 4.00 am FFS!!!!
So the jam I passed on the way in to Hornsby was still there. So I detoured via Galston Gorge and the Berowra Waters Ferry. Normally this would take about 40 minutes, but not today. I got home 2 hours later, thanks to a lot of folk doing the same thing as me.
As a few of us walked down the queue to see what to hold up was, everyone was bitching about the slovenly nature of the Ferry Master at Berowra Waters. So a couple of us gave him a gentle spray to get things moving, telling him the ferry traffic was banked back kms. Well, didn't that go down well??!! All sorts of pus and bile spurt forth about his 9 hour day in the hot sun and how much stress it was for the poor petal. We basically told him "Do ya farkin job and do it a bit quicker." Needless to say I took my shirt off and put on a hat after walking back to my car to get on the ferry incognito. For sure he'd pegged me for a ban, a spray and a biffing!!!!
Good times on a 37C arvo.

I forgot to mention that many in the queue were locals, most looking to get across Berowra Waters to pick their kids up from school or day care. They were the most vocal about the slack-arse Union thug Ferry Master.

Yeah, they are. But he's an overpaid thug who's well known for his slackness in the local community.

Speaking of which, I literally bumped into Tony Abbott in a cafe near my place today. We was in the middle of a bike ride with some other old lycra-clad dudes like him. Fair play to guy, he's in good shape.

It's quite an achievement but you were the worst of our last 4 PMs.

You think Malcolm might join him in not qualifying for the ex-PM pension?

So it is true, we really do have kangaroos (or wallabies) hopping along the Harbour Bridge here in Sydney...

This story is expected to be aired by 100s of networks around the world. Apparently* Poms, Euros, Yanks, Asians, etc, love stories from Aus about our wildlife doing "cute" or notable things (like hopping down George St).
