After the earlier exchanges about "Waiting for the Man", here is the Velvets in 1993 (25 years or so after they first recorded it, making the song 50 years of age or thereabouts). The tune is about 58 minutes in to the video of the live concert.

Thanks Horrie.  I was serious before about knowing the song well.  It was part of the repertoire of a band I played in, early 80s.  We also played Sweet Jane and Rock&Roll.  No fame or fortune, just fun and school/Uni functions.

Terrific effort to be doing covers of the Velvet scallywags.

"Waiting for the Man" is one of the great black humour accounts of the perils of opiate addiction.

I consider the Velvets in sum and in parts to be complete geniacs. Bizarre that Warhol managed them and did the stripping banana cover art.

Cale remains a genial monster of music.

Wacky stat to emerge from the H of F: Newly legended legend Kevin Sheedy is the only living man to have coached Essendon to victory in a finals match.

Lever will be a loss to the Dees, as will Darling to the Weagles and Mills to the Swans. It's opening up for the Tiges again.

Boofhead complete with tatts, headful of piss and attitude, in the crowd back when Ray was first developing his reputation, thought he'd establish himself as the designated crowd comedian and bad-ass by calling Razor 'Dingo', the only non-swear word he used all afternoon, until the even bigger and stone cold sober bloke two rows in front turned around and casually asked Hero if he was aware that Michael C was Ray's uncle and Azaria therefore his cousin. After a token 'IpaidmetwennybuxsoIcansaywotIlike' from Hero, he was not heard from again.

Besides that exchange, there is no indication whatsoever that Razor and Mr Lindy were even distantly related.

Boofhead was ahead of his time. The dingo was as guilty as sin don't you know.
