Re: Formula 1 - 2018
good point about the no refuelling these days ... too bad if you pick up a puncture while the safety car is out

And that's where you're most likely to puncture through debris. I know its an ohs issue but refuelling added some spice to the race.

I remember Verstappen's old man having a refuelling issue in a GP some years ago ... lucky not to be burned alive

You can probably YouTube a dozen such incidents. I'll wear the refueling restrictions in return for..................who the fark am i kidding, most of the rules have made it safer for everyone.

Re: Formula 1 - 2018
The Jos Verstappen incident was in the first year they introduced refuelling in that era I think (the 1994 season where everything that could go wrong, did). There were very few incidents after that and they kept it for around 20 years. In removing it they had to introduce tyres that degraded artificially quickly or otherwise every race would have been a zero-stop procession.

‘Hello, Pirrelli? Bernie here. We need shit tyres for F1 next year, thought I’d call you chaps’.
Probably went something like that.

Grosjean absolutely sucking right now.
Edit: although, to be fair, he was trying to avoid Magnussen this time around.

He didn’t need to accelerate and wheel-spin creating a cloud of smoke as he spun back across the track though. An extremely dangerous situation, it was lucky that he only collected two other cars and that there were no injuries, could have been utter carnage (like that one in Belgium I think in the 90s in the rain involving Coulthard where about half the field piled up off the start line).tricycle wrote:Grosjean absolutely sucking right now.

Comfortable for Lewis and Mercedes at the front as the rain held off. Ferrari cost Vettel at least one place with a poorly executed/timed pit stop.

He really should be dumped for a period. At least 4 bad drivers on the grid this season.

It’s always bad when valour is grossly disproportionate to skill.

Who are the other muppets then? I guess Williams have a fairly weak line-up, although Stroll sometimes shows flashes of potential to suggest he’s more than a pay driver.tricycle wrote:He really should be dumped for a period. At least 4 bad drivers on the grid this season.

Recipe for carnage given what we’ve seen so far this season... overtime pay in prospect for the safety car driver.

Aye, quality driving in a car that was underpowered for most of the race.

Re: Formula 1 - 2018
Has there ever been a more stark distinction between the hype of an event and the actual reality of it?
The Monaco Grand Prix is always promoted as F1's glamour race, but it's always total shite. A procession of cars too big for the tiny roads, tip-toeing around, trying to avoid the barriers.
It's how I imagine a GP series would look if it were exclusively raced by pensioners on mobility scooters.

Aye. Balls to the wall during qualifying, get pole and try not to crash. Had the other teams blown their tyre budget.

I've gone ridiculously fast too. straight line no traffic. used to set the cruise control at 200 at hayes ck and set the alarm to wake me in twenty minutes before i hit adelaide river and the sixty zone. and my vehicle wasn't engineered to slow down in a hurry.

Re: Formula 1 - 2018
Balladonia to Norseman is another incredibly straight bit of road where it starts to feel as though you're not moving, and could step out of the car, once you drop below 180 kph
