Howard gone

Post by horace on Wed 07 Nov 2018, 02:13

Given a box and told to clear his stuff out. According* to Lalor he was pulled out of a meeting and was told the news.

Good riddance.

The guy who negotiated the media deal also gawn.

Lalor, "Howard didn't have a feel for the game .... Good he wasn't given a 12 month farewell tour."

Maybe things are looking up.

Interesting re the media guy though. Although this might explain that perhaps he failed the "good bloke" test:

He had copped criticism for having his PA cook him hot breakfasts at work.

I still can't believe Kevin Roberts is the man to lead Aus cricket out of this dark spot. He was the despised CA protagonist in the bitter pay dispute.

I don't think the ACA will forget that palaver in a hurry.

"He also recently noted that since the men's team 0-3 drubbing in Sri Lanka in 2016, they had won as many Tests in Asia (including the UAE) as the combined victory tally for other 'non-Asian' Test nations England, New Zealand, South Africa and the West Indies playing in those conditions."

I hope but doubt the era of bald faced nepotism and cronyism and sports mad scientists has gone.

The signs are not good.

Re nepotism. Sutherland's kid was gifted games in the domestic one day tournament on the back of little form. McSofty's kid gets a call up while Bog recovers from removal of his second head. Bog and Mere are of course locks for the Test series. Mere's record as the worst performed middle bat in the history of Test cricket was rewarded with vice captaincy.

Re Mad sports scientists. Howard, his computers and graphics may have gone but tellingly in the recent Shield round Victoria selected Pattinson but were instructed to limit the number of overs he could bowl. Vic had to play an additional bowler and chop a batsman. The meeting Howard was hauled from to be given the axe was with State officials. He was issuing instructions on workloads etc.

Whoever takes over the Howard role, and one suspects it will require drastic reconfiguration, faces a big task to reintroduce some sanity. A good first step would be encouraging a number of the unfitness staff to consider their career futures.

Unhappily cbnlg is a skinfold measurement man so I expect madness to continue.

When I saw this title I thought John Hunt the Coward was no longer with us Wink

(There’s a horse racing commentator over here called John Hunt. When he’s on the radio I always remember that classic Aussie political slogan...)

But the statement was true at the time it was made and that's all that matters, and so was worth the shot. The statement from the Influential Bloody Supporters who shafted Ratten for Malthouse in late 2012 made ref to Carlton not beating a top 4 team all season. Collingwood, (who Carlton had beaten twice in 10 weeks without Collingwood losing another game in between)had hours earlier fallen from 4th to 5th after being walloped by the Eagles, and won back their 4th spot after winning their next match. That was the only round since the first month of the season that they'd finished lower than 4th.

It's all in the timing. And wasn't there a Steve Winwood song that sums it up?
