Re: Australia v India, 2nd Test, Perth, 14-18 December, 2018
On reflection the difference in the batting could be the tail. Even Starc and Haze put on runs yesterday, while Cummins and Lyon have hung around and scored runs.
The Bannie quicks by contrast do not want to be there, being more concerned with personal safety. Thought the Oz quicks could have really gone for them today, tho Instant, Umesh seemed more intent in getting out before they could be hit.
Maybe the Bannies heard Ima's advice to Big head that he had to bat again.
Reflecting on this match it is clear the Bannies are over rated as 1# TEAM. At the moment I think NZ and the Yarps are leading the pack with the Stans close behind.

I reckon we will hear it again a few times this summer.

Good shout.

They should have added an opener as cover for Finch ...and a spinner (Holland)
We are so short of quality replacements that Wank is retained despite showing his technique is fatal at Test level ...and when Puddle is the first choice replacement we arent gaining much

Yeah, this is not true. I'm not one of those chest thumper types... But in India's worst tours, all this past year, India have not been too far off.horace wrote:

Pakistan just lost a home series. 6-40 or so to lose by 4 runs. Also, have a look at their batting in recent times.
South Africa have lost in the subcontinent too often recently. This was where they were better than anyone else till recently.
NZ are not far off, but barely play enough test cricket to make a fair assessment. Even board doesn't want tests.
They're not Australia mid 2000s, but one of the best of a mediocre bunch. That lack of dominance has made test cricket so much more interesting.

Personally I think it's too tight to call all round. There's a few teams with decent attacks but most teams hide behind one or maybe two batsmen. If they fail the team fails. There is also a dearth of quality allrounders to give balance..

India imploding.
Think India's team was unbalanced. That long tail was always going to be exposed in Perth. Why four quickmen?
Agree re. our lack of replacements for the likes of Handy who's reverted to his erstwhile flawed technique.

Stokes, Woakes, Lyon, Al Hasan, Philander, Jadeja? They all come immediately to mind, pretty good all-rounders would you say?

Australia usually have 11 blokes who can bat and this crowd is no real exception (unforch they lack blokes who can consistently bat really really well for a really really long time like Steve the Unmentionable used to), but they also usually have at least 8 who can at least roll the arm over if needs be. But Head who aint exactly Jacques Careless is the only batsman in this side who I've ever seen or heard of bowling, hence the continual screaming for an all-rounder. But if we can't find one better than Mishmash we're just going to have to learn to do without.

I'll give you Al Hasan.
Stokes just over 30 with bat and ball
Woakes ditto.
Lyon bats at 10 for Aus.
Philander would be good at 8
Jadeja can't get in the Indian team

When did Aus last have an allrounder? Watson?
