NZ (1-0 v Norway) and Aus (1-0 v Rep of Ireland) get their campaigns off to a winning start.

Great result for the Snoozers, even if Norway seemingly aren’t quite the force of old.

Nor maybe are England, missing their two best players.

But we shall see!

Aus lacked finishing power up front without Kerr's heading ability.

Been out at the Colombia v Germany game tonight. Man, those Colombian supporters are crazy. So much noise.

A very exciting game. Germany totally dominated possession but were weak in front of goal. Colombia took their 2 chances brilliantly and actually had more shots on goal than the Krauts.

Thankfully the USA Philippines side lost. Sucks for the likes of Thailand and Vietnam that they've just imported a team from the US and called them Filipino overnight.

Thought the names didn’t sound very Filipino. Not that different to some of the lesser teams in Cricket World Cups who are largely made up of Indian/Pakistani expats, though…

Norway v Germany looked like a conference of Bangladeshis and Pakistanis

Fair enough if they were born there, but maybe there needs to be a minimum number of home-grown players (I can say that now Brexit has all but killed off the Yarpom!)

The aim has to be to develop cricket in those countries, though I know many of them do have established South Asian communities who are more likely to have an interest in the sport through their cultural heritage than those of non-UK white European/East Asian backgrounds etc.

Looks wide open with a number of favourites stuttering, but injuries look like they’ve done for England in terms of adding to last summer’s success.

At least these two countries are non entities. Netherlands is mainly NZ and SA rejects, and they're at the world cup.

Ireland are also offenders. Picking up Zimbabwe, young South Africans and now an ex NZ A spinner.

Swede keeper Musovic had a great game, saving Sweden numerous times.

Yeah, never seen that in a shoot-out before. Doubt the Swedes will get past Japan next anyway, tough section of the draw. England just have to avoid complacency to make the last four, perhaps against the hosts…

The keeper for the Swedes was simply a brick wall, phenomenal effort.
Amusing to see the Yanks out in the round of 16, I was in the US at the start of the WC and the hosts on the coverage were like it was a lay down misere for them to win it all. innocent

Great win by the Matildas tonight, 2-0 over Denmark, to move to the quarter finals.

The Danes were pretty dominant for most of the first half, with better ball control and passing, but Mary Fowler slipped a long ball to a flying Caitlin Foord, who made no mistake from the left of the goal.

While Denmark looked strong, our back 4 held them off gallantly and rarely gave them a clear shooting chance.

Hayley Raso put us further in front in the 70th minute with a well worked goal again set up by Fowler with a deft pass in the box.

Denmark became ragged as they pressed forward, allowing Australia some attacking dominance in the final 20 minutes.

Aus to play either France or Morocco in the QF.
