Post by JKLever Fri Aug 08, 2008 10:09 pm

Last 10 tests (3 series)

16 innings, 570 runs @ 35 0x100 5x50 but none higher than 76.

Under pressure? We surely need more from our openers if we are playing just the 5 bats?

Or has he got FEC stamped on his arse?

Not sure where to throw my money. At his head probably. Doesn't have the propensity for scoring big Test match runs, got a working over from many a bowler. The 'only young' phrase keeps popping into my head, but he's played 35 Tests now. That's a lot. He's played everybody in a variety of conditions and still doesn't look comfortable. Fair play to what he's achieved in his young life, but with the likes of him and Bell in the side, it seems reasonably obvious why we don't win as many matches.

FEC????

No i dont think hes under pressure. Still young etc. Im happy to keep him, hes shown enough for me to put him on the plane for the winter. Needs to concentrate better though, like you say, not enough hundreds.

So Cook really is considered in some quarters to be Future England Captain material? Fark me. I would've thought his permanent eye-liner would've ruled him out.

Phurt. After Brearley gave up the England captaincy, I distinctly remember Adam Ant being touted as his replacement.

Probs. Good enough to maintain their position. Not good enough (in whatever way: technically/mentally and so on) to stamp their authority on Tests and actually change the result.

Has the fact that he appears to have had eye-liner tattooed on ever been discussed on here? Can't believe it hasn't.

FEC k the eyeliner

He needs a father figure to nurture him into durable purple. Lever - to work.

I like him. He just needs a wire or two tweaking. The centuries will return.

Not a great shot, but he either has absurdly dark skin lining his eyes or he uses make-up.

Yeah, must be it JKL. Seems to have that dark lip on the bottom eyelids. Deadset, it looks like he's made-up every time he goes out to bat.

I would quite agree if that's what it was, Danny.

I think it's more uncomfortable-with-male-bodycare-ism.

...and seriously buxom tastes.
No Minkie in that pair of pairs!

But hey, he's 22, grafts okay and has put up decent-ish scores.
What's with this ya-hoo attitude o "having to score tons" ...

Gimme an opener who can consistently hang around, get to 60 / 70, take the shine off the ball,
rag-arse the oppo bowlers so that all after him can take advantage.

Ball was swinging around today - 39 was par for him.
he will come good - give him time.
or else, draft in Denly - if you want quick runs at the top.

Lookswise, I think he just needs a couple of years to grow into full maturity - his imago.

May also be true of his batting, BTW.
