Re: Cycling
watched some of the stage last night and saw the finish...Kittel's finishing burst was something to admire...as was the rainy Irish countryside

Re: Cycling
Kittel's finish was a Cav-like effort. Will be interesting to see them head to head later in the season. Rest day today in the Giro as they head to Italy.
Re: Cycling
Stage four was a bit of a farce as the GC riders decided not to push due to the wet weather. Kittel withdrew due to illness leaving the other sprinters as the only interest. Despite some late falls, Bouhanni managed to hang on for the stage win while Matthews retains the pink.
Re: Cycling
Evans second tonight behind Ulissi. Arredondo in third, who was toiling away in Japan just last year (although was always clearly too strong for that level of racing).

Re: Cycling
Great effort by Evans. He was invisible until the last 200m & judged his run to a tee. Looks like there's still some fight in the old dog.
Re: Cycling
And he's gained 50 more seconds by avoiding a crash yet again. Nearly two minutes on Quintana. May just be a big enough head start... podium spot looks secure atm.
Matthews took the stage.

Aye... a good stage for the Aussies. Evans is looking pretty serious & Matthews is defying the pundits by retaining pink for yet another stage.
Re: Cycling
Bouhanni takes out his second stage but it will not be so easy for the sprinters from now on. Matthews retains the pink with Evans second. Some big climbs in the next stage.

Re: Cycling
Two catagory 1 climbs & a mountain top finish today. It will be tough for Matthews to hold pink so the stage is set for Cadel to stake his claim.
Re: Cycling
Gutsy finish by Ulissi saw him take the stage however Evans finished fifth over the line giving him the pink jersey.
Re: Cycling
Quintana actually lost 23 seconds the stage Bouhanni won, but for some reason (not the 3km rule), he was awarded the same time as the winner.

Re: Cycling
The Orica team continues to be a force with Weening taking the stage win. Another strong ride by Evans, matched that of Uran to retain the pink. Rest day today.
Re: Cycling
What's that for them then, a Liege Bastogne Liege, 3 stage wins in Catalunya, Tour of Turkey, a stage win and 2 young riders in the top 10 in California and 3 stages in the Giro. Sensational form at the moment.

Re: Cycling
Bouhanni avoided the crashes to take out another stage. Despite finishing third in the stage, Matthews has pulled out of the Giro after earlier crashing. Evans still leads the GC despite losing fellow BMC team mate Yannick Eijissen who also crashed out.
Re: Cycling
Great stage win by Mick Rogers. I was suprised to hear it was his first career Grand Tour stage. Evans finished well to retain pink.

Yeah - I could have sworn he'd won a TdF time trial at some stage but obviously not.

Rogers' teammate Chris Anker Sorensen yesterday. Finished the stage, and in the post race interview said he had no idea what he was doing for 20 minutes.
Quintana's saying he has a cold and a sore buttock. Good news for Evans.

Evans losing the lead and some to Uran in a performance as believable as Justin Gatlin's most recent 9.87.

Re: Cycling
There is that. But he's a shit time trialist, and never had a history of a good time trial. Suddenly, he wins by more than a minute on the wonderful reputation ex Mapei team.

Yes, except it's not usually as conspicuous as 90s to mid noughties supercharging. This was 2007 Rasmussen like.horace wrote:aye ... expect most are on the gear in some form

Re: Cycling
Uran finished twelfth in the corresponding time trial last year. Thats a lot of time to make up in just 12 months.
