Re: For Star Wars fans....

Post by vilkrang on Mon 21 Dec 2015, 09:13

Well after internet blackout to avoid any potential spoilers which also extended to listening to music on my iPod at the cinema beforehand just in case, I somehow managed to avoid thr rather large spoiler.

DO NOT READ THE FOLLOWING SPOILER TAG IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE FILM NO MATTER HOW TEMPTING THIS WARNING MAKES IT.

Spoiler:
I almost feel like I've lost someone I know, he has been multiple generation's hero for nearly 40 years. As Iconic moments go, his death is up there with the "I am your father moment"

Anyway non spoilery thoughts, there were a ridiculous amount of nods to the original trilogy, it was almost an amalgamation of the first two films in many ways, but I'm not too bothered about this. Plenty of problems with the film but then there were with the original trilogy.

Overall, it is a million times better than any of those awful prequel films and felt like the first Star Wars film for 32 years. I'm so happy that Star Wars is really back after the false dawn in the late 90s, the prequels don't exist as far as I'm concerned canonically and that seemed to be the case in this new one, no mention of midi chlorians or that Jedi's have to be trained from children to have any hope, the force seems to be what it originally was and not the bastardised version of the prequels.

Feel like I might be getting caught up in hyperbole but original feeling is that it is 3rd in the pecking order behind TESB and ANH. Even if you argue that ROTJ is better (Ewoks alone put it behind TFA for me) then I don't think anyone can put forward a decent argument that this new film doesn't stand up well compared to the original trilogy and it feels like a proper Star Wars film.

Star Wars is back and I couldn't be happier (or sadder due to what the certain event that was depicted!).

Could mean anything but if you think so I'm happy for fromage to put it in spoiler tags and for your post quoting mine to be edited (too late for me to edit as no edit button).

Got to see it yesterday & after all the hype i have to admit to being a little disappointed. Its still a good film but as Vilks says, its largely a rehash of the first two films with nothing new to offer.
Looks very slick in 3D though.

Aye, I think it did the job of making me feel very excited for episode viii and I enjoyed seeing a well made Star Wars but it's almost a reboot.

Very intrigued about Snoke, can be one of only two people assuming he's not just a new random (doubtful). One of the options devalues ROTJ, the other references the prequels, although this is the option of the two I would prefer.

Not mentioning any names but any fan should be able to suss it out.

Disappointing film. After the last two offerings, think I'll avoid the next one/two.

It sits on par with Return of the Jedi.

It is not as good as episodes 3, 4 and 5.

I am just glad JJA did not fark it up.

Though I think the next instalment might see the dizzy heights attained in the first trilogy.

Who killed Boba Fett?

Swallowed by the desert creature.

I enjoyed the new film thoroughly. No real lulls in the flow, wasn't too long. So many good things about it. Certainly there were very many similarities to a couple of the original films. Great set up for the next film, although you know what I'm saying. Same as everyone else.

Wasn't he accidentally pushed in by Han Solo who still couldn't see?
