Re: Basketball
I agree, beams.
Basketfall has never grabbed me. To me it's score a basket one end, race up the other end, score a basket, and repeat ad nausem.
I'm happy to limit my following of Basketball to the Play of the Day at the end of the news when someone does something amazing or awful.

Re: Basketball
Admit to being a fan. Rank basketball ahead of the chewin backy game and well ahead of American footy and soccer for that matter.

Re: Basketball
I find basketball and baseball tedious. How Seppos can bag cricket ahead of baseball is beyond me.

Skully, I am surprised you don't like baseball. Thought it would appeal to a Stat-Head such as yourself.

I will watch and enjoy the World Series, but other than that I'm simply not interested.

Re: Basketball
The only Yank sport I really enjoy is NFL.
When I was over there for a while a couple of years ago I watched some baseball on TV and was amazed at how rarely they actually hit the thing, given how the highlight reels are all about home runs. And they think cricket is boring?

Re: Basketball
Basketball is better than netball.
How many know that the queen in chess (originally a "king's advisor") could until the 15thc move only one square at a time, diagonally - and that before that, (to 13thc), the bishop (or at that time "elephant", or various other creatures in various cultures) could move only 2 diagonal squares at a time? And that there was no en passant, no initial 2-square possibility for pawns?
When I see netball - throws from a standing position, players restricted to zones - I think of "old chess".
The Renaissance brought more dynamism. Also to chess. If not to netball.
Basketball is fine, as long as it does not become a deadly tedious, mechanical up-one-end-and-score, up-t'other-end-and-score, and repeat ad infinitum/nauseam.
The more it is like the Harlem Globetrotters (admittedly staged exhibitions with trick plays, that), the better basketball is. Resourceful, flexible, dynamic, athletic, unpetty.
That said, I don't watch it much.
But if there were more like Eilidh Simpson ... I'd be grandly entertained by it.

Re: Basketball
NFL - leaves me cold. Clowns in armour, executing tedious set plays. So many (commercial) interruptions and timeouts. So much camp clashing.
And they don't even have to touch down. Even though the commentators holler "TOUCHDOWN!!!!!"
All that is most overblown about the US.
And I hate hysterical, coronary-level superhype commentary in any sport. Demeans it. I have my own affect and reasonable intelligence, thanks. You don't need to jolt-electrocute the former and annihilate the latter for me.

Totally agree. For a game that lasts over two hours, the ball is in play for only about twelve minutes.
I quite like Basketball. I used to have season tickets when Tassie had a team in the national league.
Re: Basketball
Ben Simmons wins Rookie of the Year in the NBA. First Aussie to do so.
The Toronto coach Dwayne Casey won Coach of the Year. However, that didn't save him from being sacked after his team's shithouse performance in the playoffs.

Simmons seems a good lad. Remember watching his dad play. His dad was a try his guts out player. The apple has not fallen far from the tree.

That was seriously weird. 9 ejections for the Philippinos which only left them with 3 players.

I thought it pretty obvious. They were being embarrassed on the park so went the bash. I've seen it plenty of times in park soccer and leeeeg.

They deserve their country.
I have a couple of mates who have done plenty of business in Asia and say the Philippines is the THE single most corrupt place they've ever had dealings with. Nothing gets done without brown paper bags.

Re: Basketball
Tassie has launched a bid to be re-included in the NBL. The new franchise is to be called the Southern Huskies. Let me be the first to say what a shit name this is. Not only is it a ripoff from an american team but it has no link in any way, shape or form to Tasmania. They are going to struggle for support methinks.

Would they play at both Hobart and Lonnie?
