Channel seven in Aus ran a 'story' a few days back, showing one of their 'journalists' supposedly walking into the stadium with an oversized suitcase full of explosives.

It made it on to the wire services around the world.

On Monday, Mediawatch on ABC TV showed the story up for the P.O.S. it was.

http://abc.net.au/mediawatch/transcripts/s3023099.htm

Disgraceful.

Channel Seven is taking action against Media Watch for defamation on this matter.

Most callers on the ABC this morning seem to be with Seven on this matter saying that they don't believe the 'experts' seemingly involved with the games.

The Indian bloke seven said 'sold' them the gear is panning action against Seven.

Lawyers at twenty paces.

And anyone saying they're 'with' Seven on this needs their heads examined. Seven put together a bunch of lies and half truths into a story that wouldn't have been out of place in a journal like 'Pravda'.

The stunt has polarised the callers but some are angry with the host because their perception is that he's taking the view that it's racist. A few who've recently been to India have said that they have concerns re. security based on their experiences at airports etcetera.

Interestingly the NOTW sting with the cricketers was brought up and the feeling was that this was well researched and acceptable for exposing a genuine story.

The Indian security most likely will leave a lot to be desired. But why 7 needed to make up a story, when a little hunting would probably have found several glaring examples is beyond me.

Because that's what commercial current affairs is all about.

Had they had the rights to these games they probably wouldn't have done it anyway.

The fact that chunnel 7 are c*cks, like most "news" networks world over, doesn't absolve the Indians responosble for the games from being corrupt and ill prepared.

It also works if you rearrange the words this way ....

It doesn't and I dont think even the most nationalistic Indian would argue with that. This saga will do some good for the Indian institutions in the long run.

from the updated Oz Govt travel advisory released today

This Bulletin is current for Wednesday, 29 September 2010.
The Bulletin was issued on Wednesday, 29 September 2010, 12:27:55, EST.

This Travel Bulletin has been revised. It incorporates information on terrorism from the travel advice for India and new information on kinds of places known to be terrorist targets. It also contains new information on the safety of Commonwealth Games venues. A new sub-heading on ‘Key points from the travel advice for India’ has been included.

Travel Bulletin: 2010 XIX Commonwealth Games New Delhi India
This travel bulletin provides information for Australians planning to travel to India for the Commonwealth Games to be held from 3 – 14 October 2010. It will be updated as further information on becomes available.

Key points from the travel advice for India:
There is a high risk of terrorist attack in New Delhi. Since 2000, there have been at least 14 major terrorist attacks in New Delhi on locations such as markets, train stations and other public places. These attacks have caused hundreds of deaths and injuries.

We continue to receive reporting that terrorists plan to attack public places, including hotels and tourist locations, in New Delhi, Mumbai and other major cities.

In planning your activities, consider the kind of places known to be terrorist targets and the level of security provided. Possible targets include tourist sites (such as the Red Fort), commercial areas, public spaces and diplomatic premises, events and places known to be frequented by foreigners, restaurants and cafes, entertainment and recreation venues, prominent government buildings (such as the Parliament), offices of political parties, places of worship, markets and shopping malls, international hotels, hotels, guest houses, public transport networks including airports, trains and railway stations, schools, religious sites, including temples (such as the Lotus and Kalkaji Temples), pilgrimages and festivals. Attacks have included explosions at market places, sporting events, local courts, a cinema and local transport networks. These risks apply in all of India’s cities and tourist centres.

Australians in New Delhi should be aware that the Commonwealth Games will be held in a security environment where there is a high risk of terrorism.

The below is the travel advisory for UK. Bottom line is that the threat of terrorism has become a way of life in the Northern hemisphere.

We advise you to exercise caution and monitor developments that might affect your safety in the United Kingdom because of the risk of terrorist attack.

Pay close attention to your personal security and monitor the media for information about possible new safety or security threats.

The United Kingdom remains a potential target for terrorist activity, with terrorist attacks occurring in 2005 and 2007.

On 22 January 2010 UK authorities raised the threat level for the United Kingdom from 'Substantial' to ‘Severe’, meaning that a terrorist attack is assessed as ‘highly likely’.
Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 has spread throughout the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) provides useful information for individuals and travellers on its website. For further information and advice to Australians, including on possible quarantine measures overseas, see our
