This could be another golden era of Pomgolian failure.

Fair enough. Of course the morons who run Oz may take it into their head to not allow Stokes in here because of his violent history.

And long may it continue.
So now England need to beat the Snozies and Bannies, to ensure their place in the Semis.

Re: World Cup 2019
Roy is clearly a big loss at the top of the order but as usual the stuffy attitudes came in and the obvious replacement Hales was ignored because why, he's had a few spliffs? Big 'kin deal, how many did I T B get through after increasing the share prices on several well known beer companies and he's a sir f f s. Stokes is playing (rightly) and he could have been on a murder charge had the punches connected better.
Play the best team. Vince has never impressed me as an opener in ODI and incidentally Buttler seems to have lost that scary ability to hit good bowlers for 4 and 6 with his eyes half shut.
England are out of this world cup because the last game is 5th v 6th and i don't see us getting another point unless it rains a lot. Pakistan will get 11 points in my view.

Re: World Cup 2019
Yeah, I always felt losing Hales could cost us. Was it a few spliffs or was it coke, not sure if that was ever revealed? Seems like the squad themselves thought he had become a liability, but in any case, you need your best players and Vince is an inadequate replacement, only bonus could be him playing himself out of Ashes contention.Ronnie Sawyer wrote:Roy is clearly a big loss at the top of the order but as usual the stuffy attitudes came in and the obvious replacement Hales was ignored because why, he's had a few spliffs? I think the week of rain has changed the pitches as well, it’s gone from a 350-par tournament to a 250 one, which is not one England are capable of winning.

So, WI go out with a whimper. Gayle’s un-retirement depends on the selectors continuing to pick him, of course. If 40-year-olds who can’t run were a must have, I’d be raking it in myself*
*if I happened to be able to bat or bowl, that is...
Anyway, heard Peter’s two favourite pundits, Vaughany and Swanny (the -y is the poor man’s -ers, of course ) disagreeing on England’s crapitulation against SL. Vaughan was having a real go at Moeen for holing out, while Swann said Mo was the only one to show the right intent, the rest were crabbing it like the JAMODI side of his era. So who are you supporting Peter, or is it like choosing between Alex Johnson and Jeremy Qunt?

With 11 matches to play, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh are still in the hunt for that last semi berth.

"The broom wagon has now also claimed the Caribbean bike. Pakistan is on England's shoulder, and, coming from behind and with morale and confidence in the tank [easier run-in], looks favourite to claim the fourth spot. Four podium places at the end of this stage ... Sri Lanka and Bangladesh not out of it, if Pakistan get a flat and their service team is not on the spot at once."
beamer: I didn't hear the exchange. But FWIW IMHO (etc etc), going on what you said, ....
I can't get anything like as worked up over those two as I do about the two bad-dog politicians you name fighting in a cul-de-sac ... for max. profit for themselves (*).
But I think probably another case of both getting ratty as the England wheels have come loose, the ship has sprung leaks, (choose your metaphor) - after (IIRC) both, with breezy confidence, were sure the home team were a cert for the semis. Taking revenge for their own previous rash, characteristically airy judgment, so to speak: the one laying into one individual, the other (maybe to be different?) laying into the rest.
Experienced professionals sounding off with more chaff, instead of offering sustaining food for thought.
(*) In the same way as I can't take the country's cricket team's successes & failures too much to heart, as a great tragedy, crime, outrage, preposterous, etc ... while fraudsters, scavengers & chancers in public life (and its shadows) are still feted as jolly good fellows, honest patriots, etc by too many; and the whole damned inflicted fiasco of Brexit careers on, even towards the cliff edge. A steaming metastatic blight on the broad population, a continuing set of carves and slashes across the social fabric, and a thundering international disgrace. I enjoy cricket, but hey ... context at the moment.
Politics thread, I know.

Freaky, the comparison pointed out between Pakistan's form in WC 1992 & WC 2019!

Re: World Cup 2019
Pakistan are up there with Australia as the current form side. India are unbeaten but their batting isn’t really firing, NZ have lost their way a bit in the last few games.
Bangladesh still have a chance and their clash with Pakistan could yet be a knockout game. Sri Lanka are the second worst side in this tournament, barely a batsman worthy of the title - without the rain they would have been packing their bags already, but now it’s become a defend 250 tournament all bets are off.

Re: World Cup 2019
India's bowling has been superb so far. It only takes one of Virat or Rohit to get runs in any innings and they will be very hard to beat.
Personally, I am loving the ball doing so well in this tournament.

No. Just a stopover for 2 hours. Had first day in Bogota yesterday. Lovely mild weather for a trip to Monserrat. Off to the cathedral in salt mine today.
Enjoying Colombian food & wine already.
