Cricket reruns
In the absence of any live action there’s been a few classics repeated on TV and radio recently.
Today was the WT20 final of 2010, England’s first men’s senior global trophy. Kieswetter (remember him?) led the chase, before inexplicably backing away and leaving one from Mitch J and losing his off stump... he seemed to have a bright future but his international career quickly fizzled out, long before the eye injury that prematurely ended his domestic career (he’s now a golf pro, apparently!)
Had completely forgotten that Morgan was in that side, so he’s the only “Englishman” with two major tournament medals to his name! Oh, and the Aussies fielded a young leg-spinner called Smith. I wonder what happened to him?
Earlier on, Sky also had the first ever T20I between England and Australia in 2005, where we bowled them out for 79, setting the tone for that glorious summer.

I wish the BBC would free up some of their archive. There would be some cracking stuff if you can get past the very 20th century production values.

Would seem like some very cheap TV to produce.
Get on the case, BBC.

Watched highlights of the first Ozzie vs Windies Supertest from VFL Park on youtube
the commentator remarked how they had a new innovation of a camera at each end of the ground

The ABC in the 60's televised the tea to stumps session of Shield games. Only one camera and often with Frank Tyson doing the commentary. I can remember a sparkling knock from Ian McLaughlin. Doubt any of it would have been archived.

Do they even have the rights to the TV archives any more?skully wrote:Would seem like some very cheap TV to produce.

TMS have been doing radio commentary re-runs, typically to coincide with the Sky broadcasts of things like Edgbaston 2005 and Stokes’s Match.

Good times. I have vague memories of getting home from school and catching that last 2 hours.

This went on until at least 1972-73. While in Perth that summer on holiday I remember watching a Shield match which involved Geoff Attenborough and Younis Ahmed, playing for SA.

Re: Cricket reruns
In Queensland, it was still going in 1975/76. I remember in November 1975, we all dashed to one of our fellow worker's house to watch the famous chase when Slamming Sam & GSC chased down 165 off 16.7 overs.

Good times!
Such a weird second innings scorecard with Qld sending Thommo in with a few runs to get (and him getting bowled by his mate Lenny).
Also, Toohey seems to be batting very low.

Without knowing the circumstances of the match Thommo was a renowned slugger.

Re: Cricket reruns
I remember in the early days of the Sunday league, John Arlott would do a pre-recorded piece about either a contemporary player or someone who even then was long retired, so you would be talking about players who plied their trade pre-war. They would be an absolute goldmine if found.

Dunno. At the end of the scorecard it says gate receipts were $16,034.

O'Keeffe has gone in as NW in that NSW second innings.
Trimble still playing (and playing well) in 1975 is later than I'd have recalled.

That was the last half century of Sam's career. He finished the season with 199 runs @ 19.9 & then retired.

Watched a bit of the Aust v Pakistan Gilly group match from 2003 last night (when Token announced himself).
Forgot how quick peak Bung was - he had a couple at 98mph last night (which YoYo forward defensed through cover for 4 mind you).

in good time to watch his son bowl for Australia, and bowl memorably

Re: Cricket reruns
That was always Bung's problem. Good players can hit half volleys for 4 no matter how quick they are.
2 lengths - crap (half volley) and crapper (short) - for much of his career.

on the slower pitches, the quicker you bowl it, it just sits up begging to be hit.
