Even their supporters don't fill the grounds any more so there cannot be a commercial motive. Obviously a desire by the ECB to hold onto that No.1 ranking.

Is it only a 3 test series? I am surprised we haven't picked up on that before.

What does this mean, though? Do you mean England the underdog, much more likely South Africa?

3-1 on it's own is just a comfortable win. But when you add in 3 innings defeats, it becomes a spanking/raping.

When was the last time Australia won a series in England that included 3 victories winning by an innings?

I can't be bothered to check every series but they certainly haven't done it in the last 20 years. Wouldn't be surprised if they've never managed it.

Well, it turns out that I could be bothered.

And as expected, Australia have never won a series in England with 3 innings victories.

when was the last time the pomgolians humiliated Australia 5-0 or flogged the windies 10-0 in successive series//...of course the poms were on the dire side of the humiliation ledger

Brass Monkey wrote:England v SA is usually a good neutrally one due to the closeness of results, the Seths usually having more ability but having less prospensity to seize the moment.

It's a bit of an inbred series with so many saffers usually representing England.

Seriously though for Aussies it's usually the Ashes, Ashes and Ashes.

You'd also swear that's the way our hierarchy thinks as selection always seem to be accompanied by the attendant building for the Ashes notes. Many Aussies are mainly concerned with the idea of the Ashes and when is the next chance to confront them. Interest has escalated since 2005 when it became competitive again.

The players themselves often talk predominantly about the Ashes but Hayden recently said he enjoyed tests most against SA as they were invariably the most competitive.

it is only in recent years that Oz v Poms has been engrossing...near 20 years of dross from the poms relegated the ashes down the list... for a long time the series I most looked forward to was the Windies v Oz.....altho I did savour the 10-0 shellacking the windies gave the pomgolians
