Re: Time for a music thread
Thanx BD. That was beautiful. I have always liked cappella. I was very fond of The Flying Pickets and saw a gig of theirs. Not nearly as good but I liked their wall of sound versions. Here is "The sun aint gonna shine anymore".

But discord is never far.
"Et in Arcadia ego ...", as the old saying went.

Nice but i prefer Janis Joplins version.
Re: Time for a music thread
At least you don't think there's one roulade she can't sing ...
Lullabies can be strange things. The obvious function in the soothing rhythm & melody, & a soft voice.
But many traditional (and not only traditional) lullabies have words that voice the anxieties, dread, and/or frustrations and anger of the singer. Disguised by the music.
Think even of an old chestnut like "Rock-a-bye baby", and the scenario painted in its words.
That said, for me, the Janis version might not leave the child alive. Skin and hope flayed off it completely. I say this partly in (intended) humour. I was very struck by the Joplin version when I first heard it. But it is more banshee blast, or "Gaping Gates of Hell", than a lullaby? I think I could only listen to it one more time.
Maybe too powerful; too excoriating to hear with any space for pleasure, never mind relaxation or sleep.
John Zorn's Kristallnacht, Penderecki's Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima: similarly. Important as a social statement, but (deliberately!) a very hard listen. Cut right through you.
But it's always whatever turns you on. Music almost more than anything else.

"Danish Drive" - as the track name and the vamp you'll soon hear might suggest - was actually written by the bassist, Mads Vinding.
Ed was the drummer. He doesn't have SO many hands in fact, - two percussionists there, too! But a damn fine drummer.

Re: Time for a music thread
You may mock.
But can you perform a consort of "woodwind & brass" for her - and skilfully interplayed, at that?
(- btw: Often noted that conventional label of South European warm evening schmooze-seduction, or busking catchpenny entertainment, "Serenade" doesn't really fit that composition. For many musical reasons.
Was attached to the composition because of its instrumentation (a small ensemble of reeds with brass: here 8-piece).
The composer seems to have called it "Nacht Musique". Now that fits. Cosmopolitan (even multi-lingual), minor key, harmonies & contrasts, with dark tones & shadows everywhere in the light ... even a bit haunted.
Making seeming light of tragedy? But it's there. "Et in Arcadia ego", etc. Classic-romantic European cultural tradition at its richest, bittersweet (*).
Or, in short:
I IT! -)
(*) For anyone fond of "Wolf Walk Beloved of the Gods", a nice elaboration here by someone who knows. I juss knaws what I like, like.

Another "Fart Schmooze" ...
Cop the double-bassoon, joining in at places. You can barely even see the player's face behind that winding monster.

For what it’s worth, I listened to “Bat out of Hell” from go to whao for the first time ever today. What a great album.

It’s basically a rock opera. Overblown and overproduced is assumed. The lyrics are actually quite funny.
