Re: Will Flamingbails make it to the start of the Ashes?
This is all so confusing.
So do tell Skulls ... who on the forum are "pinkos" - (presumably regarded as rabid pseudo-Socialists of the Tony Blair type over here in the UK) ... and who are the rabid Conservatives ... (regarded as champagne slugging toffs partial to a bit of fox hunting over here) ...
I know your politics is of a different style, but the leanings left and right equate to the same thing across the board!
Is the Welsh born bint still your leader ....?

I have just calculated that 40% of the posts in the last 3 months are complaints about the low post count.

It's fair to say the pinkos (and your description is apt) heavily outnumber the Blue side of Aus politics in these fair pages. It's easier to name the Conservatives. Lead by bodyline, myself and Woody all happily cheer for the Good Guys. I believe lardy has a soft spot for the Conservatives (we could do with his help) and I think Hass leans slightly to the conservative side of politics, as does MB (I think). The rest (apologies if I've overlooked any obvious Libs or misinterpreted Hass and MB's leanings) are crazy rabid pinkos except for the forum's lone Aussie swinging voter, Emperor Zog (or so he would have us believe, but he's really a closet pinko).Merlin wrote:This is all so confusing.

Re: Will Flamingbails make it to the start of the Ashes?
Thanks ... one needs to know these things when musing over the Oz Feral Election thread....
Seems like your pinkos act and react in exactly the same way as ours over here - always apologising, always confused, always misrepresenting (or being economical with) the truth - and generally an overall air of confusion commonly disguised in the form of "we are striving to get it right".
Not surprising with a redheaded Welsh leader at the helm (visions of Kinnock ...... bleah) !
Well good luck anyway ...

And couldn't organise a r00t in a brothel nor run a chook raffle. Welfare, environmental and union apologists that are hell bent on leading the country to financial ruin.

As a wise man said on these pages a few days back, elections are won at the margins.skully wrote:the forum's lone Aussie swinging voter, Emperor Zog
Therefore my vote will be the one from FB that makes a difference.

I dares ya to vote something other than Green (ya silly Gwapologist) or pinko (ya silly closet pinko).

Re: Will Flamingbails make it to the start of the Ashes?
The Federal seat of Riverina (Zoggy's neck of the woods) doesn't seem particularly marginal. Currently held by the National Party (for the Poms, they are part of the Conservative Coalition), who won at every polling booth at the 2007 Election.
Has their been a redistribution of boundaries, Zog, to make it more marginal? If the answer is no, it would seem your precious swinging vote is worth sweet fark all.

So, let's get this straight .... the survival of Bails hinges on the result of the next Oz Genero Electie?

Have you been watching Shutter Island too often, Skulls?
Hass is bedrock reasonable conservatism, he has always made that clear.
Whereas assassins recognise no politics. Moral stuff like that gets in the way of a good clean hit.
And alien commanders also abduct whosoevers' brains they choose.

As you point out skulls, how I vote in my electorate may make very little difference. Precisely because I am surrounded by people who would still vote for the coalition if Beelzebub himself was the local National Party candidate. The fact that they give no consideration to what people are standing for, and just vote 'the way my grandfather did, the way my father did, and the way I always have' shows that the people here have no idea how precious the right to vote is. I would feel the same way if I lived in ALP heartland seats like Chifley in NSW or Wills in Victoria* where votes are wasted because most people don't GAFRC about who's standing or what they stand for.skully wrote:The Federal seat of Riverina (Zoggy's neck of the woods) doesn't seem particularly marginal. And here's why people who give no consideration to their vote other than the 'I've always voted for ...' line give me the sh!ts. Two maps, both from wikipedia, but reasonably good portrayals of how many places there are in the world where citizens get no, or minimal, say in who's in government.
Countries highlighted in blue are designated "electoral democracies" in Freedom House's 2010 survey Freedom in the World
Political ratings of countries according to Freedom House’s Freedom in the World survey, 2009:Free . Partly Free . Not Free
The redistribution for Riverina made it more marginal than it was, although making it less marginal would have been deservng of a Nobel Prize in mathematics. (Or of a promotion in the corrupt-as-all-f*ck Bjelke Petersen National Party government in Queensland in days of old.) I think the old margin was over 16%, the new technical margin is about 14.2%. It's still one of the sfaest Coalition seats in the country, but due to the retirement of the previous member (National) this election includes LIb and Nat candidates. My suspicion is that the Libs will get in, because the Nats are a dying force in politics. If that doesn't happen, the member for Riverina coudl wind up being a party leader within ten years, because their numbers are shrinking.
I haven't made up my mind who I'll be voting for yet and probably won't until polling day. But there's no way in the world it'll be for the Greens. That would be like a vote for Pol Pot's regime in Cambodia.
*I was tempted to include Port Adelaide in that comparison, but let's face it, the vast majority of the voters there are illiterate junkies, and the AEC shoud consider allowing people to vote there by marking the ballot paper with a thumbprint.

What happens in countries where people don't get to vote? Quite often, stuff like this.
