Re: Your Ashes XI
First ashes series I can remember watching live was the 94-95 series.
I'd go with-
Vaughan (c)
Strauss
Hussain
Pietersen
Thorpe
Stewart +
Flintoff
Swann
Gough
Headley
S.Jones

Six current or ex captains in that team of mine, by the way. Could be interesting.....

Not when you see his record against Aus compared to his career record. And that 207 he made at Edgbaston in 1997 was one of the best ashes innings for England i've seen. Probably only behind KP's 158 at the Oval.

Re: Your Ashes XI
Athers ahead of Vaughan against Aus? Really? I know Vaughan isn't popular with everyone but he did average 50 against Australia.

Re: Your Ashes XI
Ah right silly me, I'm tired and just did players that I've seen against all opposition.
Going to bed now but will redo the list tomorrow and I imagine Vaughan will get a place.

Tell me that comment was a joke. If not, read up on some history of the game.

I didn't watch that innings but it doesn't seem too bad of a pick now that i think about it(not that i would have Nas in my team)Henry wrote:PlanetPakistan wrote:thats just awfulHenry wrote:First ashes series I can remember watching live was the 94-95 series.

Re: Your Ashes XI
It was between Hussain, Ramprakash, Trescothick, and Atherton.
Ramps had a good average against Aus but that was mainly because he battled it out a few times in losing causes, finishing not out, Tres never scored a hundred against Aus but he did score a couple of excellent and momentum setting 50s in 2005, and Athers played a couple of good innings in ashes battles in amongst quite a lot of failures.
I think Nasser consistently batted better against Aus than the others.

No! But he's a surer pick than Toohey. And let's face it apart from Border we were pretty hard-up. Unless you include Hughes?????

Caddick?! Brings back painful memories of staying up through the night to watch him bowl his repetoire of floaty half volleys onto Hayden's pads.

You can tell why Australia won more than they lost... I wanted to pick more Englishmen but Vaughan and Jones, you would basically be picking them for one good series. Slater unlucky to miss out too but the nautious Hayden/Langer partnership can't really be split.
Earliest Ashes memory is of Graham Gooch smashing Shane Warne all round Old Trafford, then doing that cheeky little punch off Merv Hughes and being out handled the ball.
