Is Prior worth it? Empty Is Prior worth it?

Post by Lara Lara Laughs Thu 20 Dec 2007, 15:24

Is he worth the runs he gets? He dropped another catch today off Sidebottom. According to cricinfo Sidebottom "looked ready to walk off in disgust". I'm not surprised. That's the 8th easy catch Sidebottom has had dropped off his bowling since he came into the England side. He'd be averaging 27 instead of his current 34 if those chances had been taken.

And he dropped/missed 2 or 3 yesterday was it? He also dropped/missed loads in the India series and some in the Windies series, though those didn't matter at the time. He's not Gilchrist, never will be. My question to you, the people of Festive Bails is; Is Matt Prior worth it?

Bring back Read!

And before anyone starts saying "Prior isn't the reason we're going to lose, the whole side was sh*t". I already know that. I'm asking specifically about Prior.

Prior does not use L O'real, so no he is not worth it.

Emphatically NO....Prior is not worth continuing with.

I saw SiBo's reaction on Sky as Prior decked the ball - the glare was pure hate, disguised almost instantly by a whithering yet pitiful look ('coz he's a "team player" and can't go over to Prior and kick seven bells of sh!te out of him).... before unstringing his hair and returning to his mark. Poor bugger!
Prior must now rank as the worst wicket keeper England have had since gawd-knows -when ....
Get Nixon back ... Mustard even ... but FFS ... dump the Gob.

Mustard all the way for me.

Frankly the guy did well in the ODI Series!

Mustard will tour NZ and probably be the main keeper by then.

Prior cannot score hundreds or take catches. His position is untenable. A shame, for I had a strong feeling halfway through the series that he was going to make the position his own.

Davies or Ambrose if you want a decent keeper who can score hundreds. Mustard if you want a tidy keeper who can score 50s. Read if you want a keeper.

James Foster.

I think he must have upset multitudes of people, because there's no other explanation for why he isn't back in the team. Was never dropped - he lost his place through injury - yet when he was in Australia and they needed a 'keeper, they chose instead to ship out a 36-year-old from the other side of the world. I truly do not get it.

Prior had two good games and a shocker. Seems too harsh to dump him off one bad game but there is no room for sentiment.

Bring in Graham Onions too then Mustard could keep to Onions - a potent combination that would send any batsman back to the pavilion! Smile

This is my nomination (see SL v.Eng. thread):

Paul Gibb

who only kept in 3 of his 8 Tests but a reasonable argument could be made for Jack Richards or Paul Downton in the latter stages of his career. However I don't think even they have plumbed Prior's depths behind the timbers.

He only needed to have a solid game here and it would've been a good tour for Prior - he's kept well and been impressive with the bat.

But he's had the mother of all stinkers in this match and so the wicket-keeping debate rumbles on.

As for Mustard having a good ODI series - I must've been watching a different one, where he didn't score any runs, slogged at everything and actually forgot to appeal for a couple of edges...

The James Foster debate has been done. Everyone agrees he's a good keeper and could average 30+ in international cricket and it makes no sense why he has seemed to vanish off England's selectorial gaydar.

What more is there to add, other than his hair's nice and his middle name is Savin.

Savin? What a tool.
