Re: Celebrity Death List MMXVII/The Death Thread 2017
great stories...my father ( a Sth fan) sometimes talked Todd and thought he was an all time great.
As for bloody George Harris, aside from pirating Sth players may well have been a spookarama. He had some involvement as an intermediary with the Nugan Hand Bank and an attempted set-up of Cairns and Connors in the "great" loans affair in 74/75.
Harris made Elliot look an honest and humble man.
Fred I really do not get how you could follow the filthy blues

Re: Celebrity Death List MMXVII/The Death Thread 2017
There would have been the same stink if the guy who got the McHale seal of approval ahead of Todd (Murray Weideman) had missed out....Todd was only at Collingwood for four years, less than half as long as Peter McKenna (who also missed the boat).....there was a good argument to be made for many players but ultimately you can only pick 18 plus reserves....between the lines the problem for Grant and others wasn't the debate itself but the way it was conducted.
Why Carlton? A kid new to Melbourne not yet in high school saw Jezza, game over...and he hadn't even taken The Mark by then.
Only bloke I remember Carlton getting from South in Harris's time was Peter Bedford, who was so far pissed off with Ian Stewart he could have wound up anywhere (from mem his first choice was Melbourne where he'd been playing cricket). One good story I heard was that Pete's first job on arriving at Carlton was to get into Naughtons with his old interstate-trip room-mate Geoff Southby (who had asked for a clearance to SM) and tell Geoff exactly why he'd left and why South was the last club anybody with half a brain would ever want to go to....half a dozen cold VBs later Southby was back at Carlton.

wow. You'd think the All England Club could make some acknowledgement. Perhaps each year the big 4 should acknowledge any passing of previous champs (over the previous year).

Great cartoonist. Pity the conversations he provoked in later years weren't about the issues he depicted instead of the RDA.
Aye Mr K, I would imagine his self confessed years of booze and drug abuse may have had more to do with his death than the equivalent of being flogged by a wet lettuce leaf by Triggs whilst having the resources of News Corp behind you.

I was first introduced to Ball's cartoons when i was given a copy of 'Fifteen men on a dead mans chest' when i was at school. Really loved his sense of humour & of course was a great fan of Footrot Flats. RIP.
Re: Celebrity Death List MMXVII/The Death Thread 2017
Footrot Flats was the second thing I looked at in the paper each morning (after the sport of course).
RIP Murray Ball. The Border Collie breeding industry should at least pay for your funeral.

R.I.P. to Dan Webb. Melburnians would know him as a Channel Seven stalwart in a number of areas. He was 92.
