The Laws they are a changing .
From ESPN Aus/NZ FB page
In the new MCC Laws, effective October 1, a new batter will be on strike following a caught dismissal even if the previous batter had crossed in the middle before the catch was taken.

Given it came about from the England 100 ball comp, I would say not much rationale.

I think it may be because on line / live scoring is a little more complex when a catch is taken and the batsmen do cross ... I’ve made mistakes in the past at such junctures and had to work very fast to correct them. If the new batsman is automatically put on strike after every catch, it’s going to be easier for novice live scorers.

Interesting… what next, the surviving batsman returns to his original end after a run-out?
Perhaps always a bit of an anomaly that you can change ends while the ball is in the air for a catch but a completed run doesn’t count. Will possibly change tactics in run-chase slogs, where a tailender can’t hit it up in the air and get the senior batsman back on strike one way or the other…

Yeah. I don't love the anomaly now between catches and run outs.

Re: The Laws they are a changing .
I suppose the difference is that completed runs count before a run-out. Disallowing all runs off a wicket ball would be harsh (run out going for a fourth and you lose the other three??) so it would be more a case of ignoring whether they crossed in going for the unsuccessful run, which probably would make sense.JGK wrote:beamer wrote:Interesting… what next, the surviving batsman returns to his original end after a run-out?
