Apparently the disaster that is the National Basketball League in Australia has stumbled another yard towards extinction. Reports are that the Cairns Taipans are financially f***ed.

Maybe they will award this year's premiership trophy to the least team financially standing.

Basketball was the Twenty20 of its day in the eary 90's.

It was new and flashy and was going to take over right across Australia. It was genuinely popular back then, but so was Billy Ray Cyrus.

As the years rolled by Australians drifted away and were content to stick with their traditional sports.

Perhaps the same might happen with Twenty20 and cricket.

We can but live in hope, Hass. Unfortunately, baskteball is still huge in the USA where ADD is prevalent.

Very true. Same thing happened to America's Soccer League in the late 70s. They went on to TV before they were ready, showed it in a bad timeslot and the networks canned it when it didn't rate. I saw a really good documentary on it recently called "One in a Lifetime". Who'd have thought you cold get regular crowds of 70-thousand to soccer in New York City?
