Found a late 80s doco on Robert Johnson and have been listening to him again. In the doc Son House (think it was) said he played guitar as if it was a piano.

The great tale about him was he had sold his soul to the devil to play so well. Some of his songs fed off and contributed to the myth.

Cross Road Blues, pinched 30 years later by Clapton as Crossroads rec by Cream, is interpreted as where he sold his soul.

Ive been to all three of the crossroads and all three of his gravesites (some more might have popped up in the intervening years). The one in the plantation outside Green something or other, a border crossing town, gave me goosebumps.

It is such a pleasure listening to his music. From memory there was no cause of death recorded. Just another 27yo African American. The suspicion was murder but never resolved.

Found this 1965 tape while hunting down some Jools Driscoll stuff. Hope you enjoy it as I did. Burden, Baldry, a very young Winwood and Driscoll and Stewart kick up a storm singing, "I'm alright". Epstein gets a credit at the end.

Some young musicians from British Columbia, playing - and stepping to - an arrangement of an Oscar Peterson tune. The unexpected* little choral ending is an added bonus.

Pretty tune. Nice sonority from a bass clarinet
