Re: England Player Ratings
If his 'role' wasn't to smack it from number 9, I'd warrant he could average around his current one for a while. The problem with him is he simply doesn't try to cut out the shots that get him out. Gotta love a Swanny knock.
Re: England Player Ratings
Looks as if he should bat above Broad.

Yep, he can do a fair bit of damage from down there. If our top order actually set the innings up properly he can turn a good total into a dominating one in the space of a dozen overs.
Re, batting below Broad. Yep he's probably the better biffer atm but Broad tends to stick around a bit longer with top order players. Have a feeling that England think batting Broad lower will stifle his potential with the bat - it's not like he gets a chance to do much batting in FC cricket so it's a case of 'on the job' for him. And Swanny is mostly coming off from number 9 so why change it anyhow...

Not in this series, no. But he has the same amount of test 50's.
No need to change atm. It's not the lower order batting that was the poorest anyway

well, since he's been our leading wicket taker in that time - and 4th leading wicket taker in the world - I'd suggest we hope the rest when we tour Banglades allows him to regain full fitness, then continue picking him.
For all of the talk of him now being the leader of England's attack, he still averages mid 30's in the last 3 years.
So ? When was the last time we had a sub-30 bowler for 3 years continuously? He played the last 1 1/2 tests v Aus last summer injured, and it wrecked otherwise decent series figures. He had a knee niggle of some sort at the start of the SA tour - it was obvious that he's never been absolutely 100% fit for the tests. Again he was our most successful quick in the series, with figures again badly damaged by one game.
There is always one good performance every series surrounded by averageness. I'd consider dropping him for Plunkett.
I'd consider it too .... for about a nanosecond before realising it was a daft idea.

Blame the bowlers for not getting enough runs FTW.

Many think that Morne Morkel is a bit of a dead-ringer for Prince Will.

Heh, that was the bicentennial test in 88 I think. You would think he'd dragged on for nought rather than another ton.
Amazing to think in 89' he was dropped after the 2nd test (with 4 tons v aus in his last 7 games) for the might of Tim Curtis.
