Let's face it, if John the Bookies didn't exist, there would be no such thing as match fixing. shrug

What I wonder is why anyone accepts a large bet on, say, the timing of a no-ball. Any bookie must see that as suspicious?

Does that use a back stop and a silly point, with a man on the pull?

I'm not sure you have grasped the problem. It is the BOOKIE that pays for the No balls to be fixed, thus he can rig the prices he is offering to credulous punters.

M Yousuf and Afridi are the only devout Muslim because they are the only ones with a beard

on a serious note its even MORE upsetting to see Aamer doing the sajda after getting his 5th wicket. Butt thanking Allah and dedicating the Oval win to flood victims is equally if NOT MORE WRONG.

Ease up Gaz. Didn't young Jesus of Nazareth throw the toys out of the cot when he found somewhere full of folk on the punt? That little story didn't stop Hansie.

The soundness and values of a country's institutions, be it political, sporting etc. tend to reflect the soundness and values of the socities they represent. In other words the people get what they deserve. In the case of Pakistan the army and intelligence agencies have hijacked the national agenda ever since independence. They take the lion share of the monies which leaves very little for the rest. They continually play on the religious insecurities of the people so that their agendas can continue. No wonder Pakistan is facing crisis after crisis in all fields. First step if Pakistan wants to survive is to courageously delink religion from their constitution and rebase it on a set of pluralistic human values.

Doesn't that only work if they only offer prices on the specific balls that they have rigged?
