guess now that it's been postponed, it will be junked in a couple of years

I'm not too displeased because I reckon it was starting to sound like it'd just be Indian-style mug-offs(i.e. fly them in, don't let them acclimatise and wreck them in home conditions) going on all around the world. What's the point of that, really.

Like all the present 2 test series you mean.

But look on the bright side, if the test was finished in 3 days you could always schedule a couple of t20's

Luckily there aren't many 'present' ones, but yes that's what I meant. Hence the 'Indian-style', as they seem to have had the most.

It seems to gloss over it in that article but the nooz this morning said it was deferred because ESPN STAR Sports refused to show instead of that naff ODI champions trophy thing.

Its a sad state of affairs the extent to which cricket has sold its soul to the broadcasting companies.

Instances such as the DRS, and now this Test Championship where it seemed so obvious that compromises could be reached for the good of the game and instead - impasse.

Still, I wasn't entirely in favour of this gimmick. I wish we could go back to the old Test Championship - with 4 or 5 Test Series home and away each Winter between the top teams it was usually obvious who the number 1 team was.

I'd say it's likely that postponed is just a euphemism for "will die a quiet death".

It seems any effort to create a meaningful structure is doomed to failure. Our best bet may be to follow boxing's lead.

The World Champion has to put their title on the line at least once every two years in a 4/5 Test series. The Test rankings will be used to determine who gets to challenge.

Apart from that Test cricket carries on as normal.

Do we still get the Champions Trophy in England in 2013 then, or has that been ditched in favour of something else?

The Test Championship is an interesting concept but I agree that reversing the decline of the "proper" Test series, rather than the current compressed 2 or 3 match contest which is unsatisfactory and massively favours the home team, is the key to the future of the format.

I'm starting to worry that it won't be long until the Ashes is no longer a 5 tester.

We're not having a test championship because ESPN think there's more money to be made out of limited over bunfights.

Is ESPN an Indian based company by any chance?
