Completely Off Topic. Vietnam, Thailand, or somewhere else?

I'm looking to surprise Mrs Zat with a trip away in April or May, and thinking of Vietnam or Thailand.

Anyone been to either/both countries who'd like to offer advice?

Or any other suggestions where it's, say, 10 hours or less flight time from Sydney?

Looking for ideas for accommodation, food, shopping...

skully, airfare deals are no problem, have well into 6 figures of Frequent Flyer points. It's the destination I'm looking for.

Have to admit I thoroughly enjoyed Phuket.

Vietnam for me - and I'm pretty sure your wife will also enjoy it more... Be sure to go to Hanoi and Halong Bay. I haven't been to Phuket, but I've been told it is very Westernised.

What is top of the 'must see' list in Vietnam mynah?

Of the places I've been to, Halong Bay, definitely. Don't do the day trip - it's much too short. Sapa is beautiful if you're into hiking. Be sure to check out the best time of year, otherwise your entire trip may be shrouded in mist...
