Compared to say ten years ago what is your current interest level in Cricket ?
Interest levels in Cricket
I find myself watching less and less of cricket these days. Not sure if it a sign of getting older or it has got to do with how the new game that seems to be centred all around T-20 / IPLs etc.
Where do you stand ?

Re: Interest levels in Cricket
Once int'l commitments are back I'll start to watch more cricket. Right now, I'm just sick of this mindless barrage of T20s. As Holding says it should not be called cricket. Should not be even remotely associated with something as good and pure as cricket is. Even ODIs are worth gold as compared to these silly T20s.

2000 was india's annus horribilis. now we are number one. so quite a big change
2000 was also when ganguly took over captaincy, and marked the start of india's ascent
overall cricket though is of a lower standard, esp fast bowling

Re: Interest levels in Cricket
If fast bowling is of low standard then how come batting be high standard? Give a greentop/minefield to ANY team. 9/10 times it'll succumb. I think we're in a age of FTBism prevalent in all teams, notwithstanding few exceptions who too should fade away in next few years.overall cricket though is of a lower standard, esp fast bowling

Re: Interest levels in Cricket
Tests involving Australia - very interested, cheerleaders doing naked handstands around the loungeroom could scarcely distract me from the real action. Especially tests v India, England, South Africa, and the West Indies ... even lubed-up, panting cheerleaders doing naked handstands around the loungeroom could scarcely distract me from the real action.
other Tests: I follow the scores with interest, on-line.
World Cup Finals (probably not relevant to English fans) these are also fairly interesting games, around the interest level of the average Australia Test v Pakistan, Sri Lanka, or NZ.
Other World Cup ODI's: a flicker of moderate interest if Australia is involved
Other ODI's: Televised centre wicket practice. Better than a soapie.
Any T20: I'd rather watch grass grow, or strip wallpaper from every room of a circa 1900 hovel. I literally don't give a sh1t who's playing.

I do like the Test rivalry between Australia and India, though.
The Laxman-Dravid match is the best I've ever seen played.

The shitness of a lot of the India team members and the sh!t performances of the others who are not so sh!t have almost completely turned me off cricket, except when making doomsday prophecies.

Re: Interest levels in Cricket
Mine is much higher now. Although I'd gone to watch cricket every year with my Dad since I was young it was only the South African tour of 2003 that really got me into cricket. Watched every test of that series and have been hooked ever since.

Re: Interest levels in Cricket
Well my interest levels are much lower than they used to be- but then again they used to be astonomically high.
Still curious to pour through the scorecards whatever they might be but having grown up enough to no longer link England's success with my own self-esteem I can manage no more than an "ooh that's nice" rather than a bestial roar of pleasure when faced with the small matter of a w/c win. I feel like I've seen it all now spectator wise and I see every team's journey as a continual cycle with no end or meaning just balls and sticks.

My interest level is almost zero and it has been for a while. I keep hoping that it will come back.

Sage cubed
It used to be the rule of thumb that you cared about the result of tests for decades but only cared about the result of an ODI only whilst you were watching it. Not sure if even that holds true for T20 - I'll let you know if I watch one

Re: Interest levels in Cricket
My interest level was not as high ahead of this series. It has picked up a bit but confess to not having watched each ball.
Australia is lucky to have some decent bowlers and one top quality batsman. Otherwise it is an ordinary team with at least one rather ordinary person. We are lucky the Poms have been so poor. Expect the Saffies will give us a biblical smiting. Hopefully we select some tough batsmen and leave the ftb's at home.

Re: Interest levels in Cricket
I can't believe I will ever lose much excitement for the great game (at least at Test level).
I guess it will depend on what the ICC do with Tests. If they fiddle with the Test format to its detriment, my loyalties to this mighty game might be tested.

Re: Interest levels in Cricket
There’s too few interesting and competitive Tests these days. Most are over as a contest within 2 or 3 days, and undercooked visiting sides are hung out to dry on pitches prepared to suit the hosts’ strengths.
JAMODIs are still JAMODIs but at least England are entertaining to watch these days.
