When I asked him why he'd failed to bond with Punter, Pup and Mitchell Johnson's new tattoos, he said: "Too much money, too many endorsements, not enough humility and guts." ...

Cricket Australia has drowned us with too many Mickey Mouse games (Johnnie Walker All Stars, anyone?), too many formats, too many uniforms and too many players in those uniforms across those formats – so we barely get a chance to bond with them.

When cricketers do break out of this swarming anonymity and cement their position in the team, what do we get? Too much exposure!

During the Adelaide Test, 12th-man Johnson starred in more ads (2) than he did overs bowled (0) because he wasn't even playing. Add to that Ponting spruiking vitamins, Clarkie showing us his dongle and the other 97 guys hustling chicken, beer and mobiles and you have to wonder when these blokes actually practise?

It's interesting that we hardly ever see the likes of Hussey, Siddle, Harris, and Haddin endorsing things left, right and centre.

Any coincidence that they appear to be the toughest and most focussed of the Aussie players?

Just because the rest are not marketable and don't get endorsements doesn't mean their head is screwed on right.

But the players who DO get all the endorsements (Ponting, Clarke, Johnson) are clearly sooky, dumb, mentally unstable and under-performing.

The Mitchell Johnson gatorade ad is hilarious.

"I sprint 15 meters, 6 balls an over, 20 overs a day for about 100 days in the year. Sometimes its really hot too...."

Oh Mitch, you're so tough with your tattoos. I wish we got Gatorade in the UK (and it didn't taste like cats piddle), then I could be like you.

Although to be fair, you have to be a lot fitter than people think to play cricket.

Most of the anti cricket brigade deride our game as one played by fat tossers who need no endurance or athleticisim.

And up to about 10 years ago that was the case. Still is at pretty much every level other than the top level.

You can say that about any sport. I don't see many saturday afternoon park footballers or rugby players with supreme fitness either.

Especially bowling, if you want to bowl 85mph plus for long spells you have to be very fit. Miller, Hall and Trueman were, just like Anderson, Siddle and Johnno are now.
