Steyn vs Donald
who would you choose? after yesterday's display i would probably pick steyn at his peak. pitching on middle and going past off with very late swing. ball after ball after ball after ball....
it was like seeing mcgrath bowl at 90 mph with huge late outswing. magic
donald i guess didnt swing it as much after the first 4-5 overs. he got a lot more bounce off the pitch, as compared to steyn who is a bit more skiddy. AD could be a lot more nasty though, had a great bouncer

Re: Steyn vs Donald
Even though Donald was as fearsome as they come, I'd go with Steyn.
IMHO Donald didn't rely too much on swing, rather he was a superb exponent of pace and bounce. While Steyn has it all. Pace, bounce, swing. You name it and he has it.
Probably the most complete fast bowler after late Marshall.

Re: Steyn vs Donald
Speaking of swing, I still remember Donald clean bowling Tendulkar in THAT Durban test in '96. The ball pitched miles outside his off, swung back to take his middle stump (IIRC).
Just like the ball with which Warne bowled Strauss in '05 Ashes, just that Strauss was a leftie or THAT Gatting thing.

Re: Steyn vs Donald
that donald ball didnt swing as much as it seamed off the pitch. almost a replica of wasim's ball to chris lewis in 1992. donald calls it his best ever delivery. i think the indian team had a collective chill go down their spine

Donald Vs Eng at Jo'burg
I don't know but I don't think many would have survived that spell of fast bowling

It was indeed a special delivery. The One wrote:that donald ball didnt swing as much as it seamed off the pitch. almost a replica of wasim's ball to chris lewis in 1992. donald calls it his best ever delivery. i think the indian team had a collective chill go down their spine
I remember Prabhakar bowling similar kind of delivery to clean bowl Gooch in '93, don't remember the venue. OK, it wasn't at a pace Donald generated, still what a delivery that was from him to Gooch who had his middle stump flying out of the ground.

Exactly. Such an uncomplicated and fluent action just like Steyn's is.

Re: Steyn vs Donald
So SG, who do you think will win this test?
btw...I have Steyn ahead of Donald. S has the potential to go down as a great in the history of the game

SA, any day of the week. They've Steyn in their arsenal. That alone should be enough to topple us on this pitch.

Re: Steyn vs Donald
So Steyn isn't already a great? I guess having the best S/r ever in tests (for bowlers having taken 200 tests wickets at least) asks for him to be a great at least.

And that in an era where the advantage has been shifted over to the batsmen.

Steyn would never be able to bowl a fizzling spell to Michael Atherton, that's for sure.

Re: Steyn vs Donald
Donald was probably the third best fast bowler of his era after Ambrose and Mcgrath. Steyn is far and away the best fast bowler in the world at the moment.

Donald went missing against the Aussies a lot for the first half of his career.
I think Steyn is just better.

Re: Steyn vs Donald
Steyn is probably the second best pace bowler I've seen, after McGrath.
I'm probably biased due to the amount of drubbings he has given us though. Steyn is already a great though.

Re: Steyn vs Donald
It would be simply delicious watching Donald and Steyn bowling as a pair. Imagine if it was at Perth or another quick pitch.
Carnage.

Steyn has an incredible ability to find movement when no other bowler can.
